Finally a bit of progress to show . I never realized a Hurricane paint job would be this conflicted. After a good bit of reading on the internet I began to doubt the day fighter schemes for this plane and went with dark Earth / dark green .

When trying to find the dark Earth color, I realized that I did not have a match , so I found a formula to mix it with Tamiya paints. Hope you Brits don't find these too far off.

My favorite part of the research about Indian Hurri paint schemes was that anything was possible .

I put into practice several things in this build including cutting Tamiya with 91% alcohol. That seems to really make the finish very flat and somewhat fuzzy looking.
The above picture is a before / After application of Future.

The contrast on the dark Earth was even worse. It looked almost deck gray before the Future .
How did we come up with Dark Earth for this shade anyway ? :huh:

This is where we are tonight. Hope to seal it Friday and do decals this weekend.

A while back I met an old gentleman that flew these in India during the war.

Looks great and if anybody wants to say anything about color remind em those planes were well weathered.

Thanks guys. Forgot to mention that the instruction for the Sky decals ( therefore the paint patterns ) were not very clear to follow :stinker . Lots of variations without a real continuation in calling them out.

I guess I should have studied them more closely, before trying to free hand it. And thereafter correcting with a mask.

I actually made good on the decals this weekend and after sealing them with some future I applied a slurry of sludge.

Not all that carefully either , by the way .

Will rub the excess off tomorrow when it's dried .

Well Bob that was just a small pun from my part It seems so many modelers have an aversion to dirty airplanes.
I find it hard to believe that anything operating on dirt strips and leaking oil and coolant would be clean for more than two sorties

Looking good Chris. Even on a clean flight line they get dirty quick. What with grubby handle touching them, dust, oil and stuff. I'm thinking the air must have been pretty dirty too with all the fires going on from destroyed vehicles etc.

Unfortunately James WW II pictures do not seem to have the quality to reflect what should be obvious unless you can find close ups .

In the European theater, I'm sure that the abundance of rain bringing down the dirt must have been a factor also.

They said the Hurri did not enjoy long lives but the better pictures of the survivors looked to have had a tough life
