It begins with short cast on a 1/350 210' WMEC lower hull. Since not much goes to waste here, chopping, sanding and shaping began to achieve a .72inch beam and close to 3.77 inch length. Yes, the hunk of lower hull started superstructure construction. The bridge winders fit well and looked cool, until I was reminded to look at the references. They don't look like a control tower anymore.

.......brings us all here, without enduring every long-winded, boring, step in Mastering. These are almost always ugly before they go to mold. This 1/350 Island class WPB is no exception. More filling and shaping to come. I tried to buy some photo-etched mast parts from an eBay vendor in China for this model.
They want $207.30 in shipping for a $9.00 item. They need our business a lot more than we need theirs.
Eatabagadix, ChiComs!

That's absolute horseshit. I saw another post about some asshole trying to gouge and blame tariffs.

I ordered something for the dogs, didn't realize it was from china but there was no unreasonable shipping charge. These assholes can kiss my ass.

I dreamt last night that a winged sailing ship flew by my me. Smoke from the stack, making a fair bit of way, just above the clouds.
I don't know if Otto Lillienthal, Spaceballs, One Piece anime' or Buzz Lightyear is responsible for this, but I grew weary of all the sanding.
So.............................

Do you think the STOL wingtips are too much? Imagine the capabilities a set of gull-wing glider wings could give to almost any small model!
HMS Surprise? Rick Raccoon? 1/72 scale T-34? The list is endless!

Completed wing and tail Masters. I did leave the hardpoints for rockets off.
Adding to the ridiculousness of such a thing, I made these from Hy-Vee menus Teresa brought home.
Free .015 plastic comes in handy sometimes.

Then, I went back to filling and sanding. :bash:
The forward spray shield only has a few more tiny divots to fill.
Thanks for looking in!

The longer I work on this the worse it looks. I've never had such a fight with a Master before. I'm a big enough man to admit the Do-Over. Since my lay-off, I have been "working" at TLAR Models as if it would replace my lost income and the structure of work. I know guys that LOVE being laid-off and I have done a poor job feeling at ease with my unemployment. Anxiety has replaced creativity. I have no expectation of being recalled to work for a boss I have little respect for, in bargain-basement, low quality (DR Horton Homes) that I despise. So what is the loss?
I wonder such things.
Happy Hour has arrived and Teresa and I are celebrating Markus Areillius Karolus' Happy Birthday.
I hope all of you have something to celebrate as well!!

3.771 Inches LOA. The superstructure is the proper length as well. Historically, I'm really good at making Masters with too much freeboard.
Ima fix thayat!

Yeah, That is Francisco's 1/72 scale plan. It is 5.5 scale feet per square to come of to 110' LOA.
There is ALWAYS a lot of math involved in creating an accurate Master. For the Raider set, the same kind of calculations went into mast heights and yardarm measurements that are included in the instructions.
This is why I don't sell my models on the cheap. Couple that with scrupulous quality of my resin castings.
This cutter is a larger pain in the tuchas than usual. Freeboard at the the stern is .24 inches. She just doesn't want to square-up.
I'll get it. I f-ing HATE to lose!

Chunks of cured LPP lay all over my deck and I need a couple of boats. Soo...............

Way back when, my Dad had a 16' Larson Runabout I was fond of. I could not think of a reason not to recreate the ol' Lady in 1/350 scale.
He traded for a V-6 Larson 18-footer with a higher freeboard that was not as handy or well liked.

Of course, the rescue boat for the WPB needs Mastered as well.
Having gone back to work, modeling has returned to it's proper role of relaxation and creativity. :yipee:

The 18-footer had a higher gunwale. Stepping into the boat less than nimbly saw a man wacked in his yarbles. NOT an endearing quality for a ski boat.

A wheel for the helm and a bit of boarding ladder, starboard side aft will finish the Larsen Master. I thought about my Dad quite a lot while I was making his boat up. It's been long enough since his death, that I can remember him without crying.

Then my Sister Julie called me. She says my dad's wife (widow) Claudia has decided to give my Dad's pick-up to me. I asked how much she wanted for it, willing to purchase the vehicle. Julie says it is a present. The vehicle in question is a 2011/2012 burgundy Chevrolet Colorado. It is powered by LH9 327 cubic inch (5.3) V-8 engine. I believe it to be 4-wheel drive and it has (sob, sniff) 4 doors. It hasn't been driven in the same 5 years.

A gift. I am just plain blown-way! And it's ironically, almost my habby burseday!

My Beloved 1993 F-150 extra cab will be finding a new home. I'm also planning to finish the brake repairs on my 2005 Kia Opima and find "The Bird" (She loves to fly!) a new, loving home. The Papa's Pick-up. How cool is that?!

Once I add the p/e wheel to the 1/350 rescue boat, that Master is done as well.
Thanks for looking in!
