1/16th scale sFH 18 Howitzer

I have a set of the diamond hones that Saúl posted but use them for dealing with metal parts. The 1200 works really good for removing nibs on photo etch parts. It even works on the steel PE parts. Then I have a set of credit card sized diamond hone cards. 400, 600, and 1200 grit. As I have some carbide cutters and fine jewelers engraving tools I also have the big 3" x 8" diamond plates 600, 1200, 2200, and 3000 grit for sharpening gravers and lathe cutters. Sharpen then polish them and they cut almost without pressure.

Right now, I am building an extension to mount on my lathe so I can put the LONG barrel in the lathe and make it round.

Here is the layout drawing. I have one more part to design, and some of the parts are already partially made. Since it is a line drawing, I could make it huge and the file size is still within the site's limit. If you really want to see the parts, download it.

Edit: (Sunday 04-19-26) updated the drawing, added the last part. changed the color on one part so it can be seen against the yellow background.

Now to get to work making and finishing all the parts. Hopefully I will finish this today.

LOL! Some of you guys know me and my fancy jigs. Only started this early Saturday afternoon. The design has been going through my mind for a couple of days. Designing this stuff is getting easier, and this should work fairly well.

Coming from a life long eyeballer (me)...this is impressive!

Yeah, I guess I have been a toolmaker and such as long as I can remember. I have a 1/9th scale Kubelwagen that I started back in the 80's. I managed to get the engine done correctly with the right details even though the kit was obviously based on a Kubel that had been pieced together with modern parts (front suspension, and engine) What made me put it aside is that the sheet metal of the body that can be seen on the inside did not have the ribs molded in relief on the inside as they should have been. To get them right I was going to need some way to mill them so they would be straight and an even depth. Started making a mill table from brass tubing that could bolt onto my Dremel drill press. One thing and another it got set aside and never done. At some point I really need to finish that beastie.

Have been busy today drilling holes milling parts to size. While I could do things as a production line, I do take short cuts to make sure holes align by drilling the hole in the top part, then positioning the lower part and drilling a start hole into it through the upper part. If there is any miss positioning of the hole even slightly, the mating hole will line up just fine.
