the last couple of days i struggled with fitting the canopy! horror!

although carefully aligning the parts i faced some major problem with the fuselage part with the instrument panel! when aligned with the fuselage, the main canopy part didn't fit, when i aligned the canopy part, the instrument panel part didn't align anymore and overlapped with the bow section so that the according canopy part didn't align anymore!

in my frustration i carved away 1mm from the instrument panel part (the not clear part!) and to not do any harm to the instrument panel itself i did it to the smaller front part! the result: now this part didn't align with the fuselage sides anymore!

oh well ... it sounds like a major rant but in the end it's the problems and how to overcome them what makes us grow and learn!

another problem area is the backside of the canopy - when you look carefully at the last pic you notice a step where the canopy meets the fuselage! i cannot explain that step to me since everything alignes and if i trimmed down the canopy part it wouldn't align with the next canopy part! *yawn*

confused?

anyway - i will overcome the problems! all of them!

there's something else occupying my mind at the moment anyway - revell didn't include the auxiliary compass that was placed in the front canopy! i have to decide now if i try to scratch the compass or leave out! (my scratching abilities aren't that glorious at all!)

That canopy looks like a pretty good fit to me Laura...I have been doing aircraft for a long time and I get maybe 2 or 3 out of 10 looking as good as yours does...which is why I started building armor alongside my aircraft builds...keeps me sane!

Hi Laura. I'm still hazy on the windscreen problem, but cant see a problem with the rear canopy. I've got my Aero Detail out and looking at it and at your model, they match. The canopy stands proud of the fuse on either side of the gun mount on the real one. Yours looks just the same. I can try and scan the picture for you later this morning after I get some coffee into the circulatory system if you would like. I think you've got it just fine. (y)

Second that!

:blink :blink

I could be so lucky to get a canopy to fit like that.

If the step worries you too much you can build up the fuselage hump to align with the canopy. Without pictures of the IP it's hard to tell what the problem is up there.

Really, I think it's looking fine! (y)

what the problem WAS! B) i cut away 1mm from the front end!

ok ... still some fit issues (gaps) here and there but i think i can fill them with ca glue? is that correct?

masking is almost done and that disturbing auxiliary compass scratched (don't expect too much dudes!) - i cut a small resin block to shape (well, sorta!), drilled a hole, added some ca and inserted that into a corresponding hole in the canopy front (lotsa sweat!)

tomorrow i should be able to advance to the wings! finally!

Laura you will work it out and it will be fine. Learning new skills can be frustrating not to worry you will come through. Looks good anyway.

Yeah it's Big!!! and it's looking good! I am also glad to see that my work area is not the only one that cluttered and full of stuff.

It really is big and you are working so fast!
(y)

I really hope I get my gift to you on time!

when you're done, where are you putting or hanging it?
:idonno

Regards,

 masking, painting, more masking, painting again, more masking and stuff you know? but i will have to make some space again and clean the bench a bit!

it will be here on time! still a long road to go!

Don't feel bad about a messy bench. It just shows that work is being done. I work in a space 6 x 6 inches most of the time.

Terry ;)
