Gonna be participating in a Greek diorama book

I am going to be contributing around 20 pages or so in a new Diorama book by a Greek publisher. His name is Stelios and he has been in the publishing business for years, (Model magazines and books). My English buddy, (mate), Ken Jones, is the go between me and Stelios as he doesn't speak English and I don't speak Greek. Ken was stationed in Greece for three years in the army and is fairly fluent.

So far I only know that he wants text and hi res photos for 20 pages, and the deadline for the copy is June first. It will be printed in English. He is sending me a copy of a similar book he printed in the past. Since Saul Garcia knows damned near everybody in the model business, he might be familiar with this guy.

Thats Mr Black Publishing isnt it. He has 9 books on figures that are awesome and he just released a book om dioramas which I still have to pick up. Cant wait to see your section. Dave Youngquist is also in the book.

Here is a review of the first 2 books if you are interested https://www.modelersalliance.com/books-59090/72-reference-/788-scale-model-handbook-1-and-2?highlight=WyJtciIsImJsYWNrIiwibXIgYmxhY2siXQ==

I'll take your word for it James. I have never seen the two books in your review. I accepted his offer strictly because my friend knows him and vouched for the quality of his books. This got me to thinking. I sold VLS in December of 2006. At that time, I had my fingers on the pulse of the hobby market. I have been away from it now for 8 years. Seems I'm really out of touch!

Thanks,

Bob

Cool beans Daddio, you going to use something you've already done or build new?

He says the deadline for all the text and photos is June first, so, no way I could build a diorama, photograph it and write the text in that time. Not exactly certain yet, just a few bits and pieces here and there. He is supposedly sending me a copy of another of his books with an idea of what he has in mind so I can get an idea of what his style is. I plan on using the two dioramas I built for Gail as the European modeling magazines haven't seen either, (They were published in England, but in Doll House magazines), and probably some of the Logistics stuff. As soon as I get an idea, I'll let you know.

The guy told Ken that he saw a Superdioramas book about 30 years ago and that was what got him started in modeling and later into the model book business. If I remember correctly, that book had sold over a hundred thousand copies before I split with Verlinden 15 years ago. For the model industry, that's a lot! I'm going to be bustin' butt on Logistics this year, I really want to get it finished and onto something else! Once I have the figures finished, I could have it all done in a matter of a 2 - 3 months. I've been on this thing now since 2002, not full time of course. I just bit off almost more than I could chew when I got the idea for it. Looking back, if I had it all to do over again, I'm not really sure if I would or not. It has been an insane amount of work, far more than any of the others. A lot of people have said that I know, but I think it was more than even they realize.

Bob, you should realize you are a worldwide legend already.
You don't have to find people anymore, people find you !!
You will do fine, congrats.

James got it right. Stelios Demiras is behind Mr. Black books. Good stuff and a kindred spirit to you (loves dioramas).

Regards,
