Where is Global Warming when you need it?

This winter has not only been the coldest of my 73 years, but I have never seen this much snow. Other than dustings, there has been eight significant snowfalls and winter isn't even half over yet. I have a buddy in Denver and we have had more snow in St. Louis than he has, although his days below zero have been more frequent. The only good thing is, I've got in quite a lot of bench time, but my poor dogs have cabin fever. Check out my back and front yard.

It looks like a repeat of the winter of '00, my Southerner wife's first winter in Des Moines. It almost drove her crazy by the end of the winter.

I sure don't miss that snow and ice stuff, stay warm! B)

Here's the view of my deck on the other side of the state.

Here in central Oregon it has been warm and in the 50's until this week. We are finally getting the snow we should have been getting in November. But the weather people say it will be back up to the upper 40's next week again.

We're getting hammered again today in Northern Indiana. It's getting so bad they are running out of places to push the snow out of the way and clear the roads. Every time it snows they call a travel warning and it's a $2500 fine if you are out on the roads. This is the 4th snow day I've had from work since New Years. I've NEVER had a snow day from work! Oh well I'll hopefully get some modeling done today. (y)

$2500 fine for driving? What if you need something?

Yeah we got a call from our plant that they were sending folks home. I knew it had to be bad if they called off work.

I can see their point in the fine. Last month, the Gary,IN area got a huge amount of lake effect snow. Traffic was stalled big time because of the snow. The reason they could not get snow plows onto the high ways was because of traffic.

Hello from Bunker Hill,KS BTW,

We'll be crying 'global warming' when the heat hits this summer. I can't wait to see the flooding down south when all this northern snow starts to melt. It's all good. CR

Yeah who ever heard of it getting hot in South Carolina...you know the state where asphalt is a liquid. :rotf

Whenever I am talking about cold and snow, I always remember the winter of 1969-70, my wife Susan and I were in Dubuque, Iowa. It is on the southern border of Wisconsin. We stayed at a Holiday Inn. One of those old motels where you climbed the exterior steps to the second floor, walked down the walkway to your room and went in. That night there was a terrible snow storm with high winds and sub zero temperatures. The next morning I woke up and walked to the window and peered through the curtain. It was covered with snow. I tried to open the front door, it was frozen shut. We had to call the desk and they sent someone up and used an acetylene torch to melt away enough snow/ice that we could open the door like it was something they did on a regular basis and was no big deal. To us, it was like something out of a Saturday Night Live segment.

Over the years, whenever I talk about cold and snow, I always remember that.

Master Bob, I think the warming is here in Brazil, I think we are burning. Broken records of high temperatures... :vmad :vmad :vmad

Wouldn't it be nice if I could send you half our cold and you send us half your heat, then we'd both have perfect weather! (y) (y) (y)

You could always share with Australia - 46 C in Adelaide where I used to live, over 40 C for 7-8 days, melts your brain. Sydney wasn't that bad, only a few days in the high 30's. Miss the snow sometimes ...

Wow! Laurence,

46° Celsius is 115° Fahrenheit. Yes, I'd say that was hot. Some would say that Missouri wasn't the best place to live because of the extreme weather. We get below zero in the winter. (It is -6° F as I write this, that's -21°C), and we have +100s in the summer. 115° is rare, but I have seen it that high. Still, I like the seasons, I do get tired of the ones that are extreme, (this is the worst winter in my experience), but I would miss the snow if I lived in the tropics as well. There is something to be said about sitting in an easy chair with a snifter of cognac and a great book, the fireplace roaring, watching the snow fall through the windows and the wind howling outside. On the other hand, enough is enough for this year! Bring on the sunshine! :yipee

First time I got here in Australia I was telling people about one of my best winter memories - a place up in the mountains, open fire, cognac, reading Les Trois Mousquetaires while the wind was making the pine trees and the rocks "sing" - that unique sound that you cannot get anywhere else. They were like :woohoo: - sounds exotic. Most people here have never seen snow.
Later on I went on a field trip with my boss, a smart educated lady, had dinner at a restaurant and I wanted to have a cognac. Allowed her to smell it but that was all  . When she went to France on a work related trip 6 months later, first thing she tried ? Cognac !!!

Sorry for digressing :smack but I really do miss a good cognac which can best be enjoyed in front of an open fire, no other lights in the room plus all the other bits and pieces that Bob mentioned. (y)

Only snow I know is on our mountains in winter And I aint climbing a mountain with a bottle of brandy just to be cold :fencing

With all the posts about how the southern climes are experiencing hot weather now i have to wonder if that isn't the norm. The northern (above the equator) areas are in their winter now because of the north pole's tilt away from the sun, in our summer the northern climes above the equator will point towards the sun- thus the lower climes will tilt away into their winter. This conversation will be very interesting in July when we are baking here in the USA. Just a thought. CR :drinks
