Okay after the foothills we went east to Drumheller. It is in the prairies in a canyon. From lush to badlands. Saw the Royal Tyrell Museum and if you come up this way take the time to see it especially if you are a dino nut like me. http://www.tyrrellmuseum.com/
So coming in to the canyon.

A suspension bridge that used to be used for the coal workers to get across the river to worl. The year after the mine shut down the cliff side caved in burying the entrance.

Wow, I bet it's nice there. 157 different kinds of barbed wire huh? I would have never guessed that many were even made. So all those dinosaur bones were found in that area?

Yes they were found there. IIRC, that valley is a virtual time capsule into the past. James, do I understand they think the glacial movement deposited those bones there or was it just the happenin' spot for Dino back in the day?

If you look at the striations on the sides of the cliffs, those are various time periods. About half way up is the extinction band. Over time the area was above and under a great sea which ran from the Arctic ocean to the gulf of Mexico. Most of the bones etc were found there. There is another new Dinosaur museum called the Philip J Currie Dinosaur Museum northwest of us I want to get to that is supposed to be in another fossil rich area. If I remember correctly the biggest carnivore that looks a bit like Tyrannosaurus Rex was found here and called Albertosaurus. I'll have to check my facts though. I am hoping to go back next year and spend a bit more time. Also want to go to Banff and Jasper National Parks and get some pics of the Rockies. Been about 29 years since I have driven through them. Got this book but have not had time to read it yet.

Man you start thinking about this stuff and you realize how little we all are compared to the history. Those things were around for millions of years before we came along.
