yep. ive got two of these kits and i am planning on building both at the same time. i am planning on one build being a show car. shinny, flashy, all that stuff. the other will be not so much. i am thinking rusty with primer and such. i am going to have fun with this.

july 26 i begin my pearl harbor build. but these are going to be a fun distraction to help me stay in the mood.

stay tuned folks. it is about to get confusing.......at least for me.

Ooooh nice Will keep my eyes on this I love 30 - 50's styled vehicles and Rods

I am hopefull that the new importer of Revell Monogram into SA will finaly get us some kits at reasonable prices. The previous guy was so expensive you could import it and with postage they were still cheaper than what he asked for the retailers. Made these hot rods about twice the price an Tamiya Ferari was

two street rods....the beginning

dave glad i can help.

well folks my first task with this build is to begin to prep the body for paint.

i started off with both the same way. i sprayed a flat black primer. (dont know why but i just like the black)

for the show rod i then started to wet sand the body. i want a really smooth paintjob for this one. for the other i did just a little different. i sprayed flat white and gray to prep for future chipping and paint peeling.

next up will be rusty areas. going for just surface rust on this. not going to beat it up too much just give it a worn look.

just getting started.

the apparently wet spots in the rust layer were hairspray. that however didnt work. at all. more on that at a later date.

now for the show body i got the first of the gloss black that i have decided to go with for the paint.

you are all very kind.

this is the second part of the update i started yesterday.

i wanted to show you how the bodies look, today i also worked a bit on the engines. now i have to say these engines are nothing more than blobs of plastic with assorted dips and raised points. they resemble engines in only the vaguest of illusions. but i went with them. i have gotten the blocks and trannies (all one piece) as well as the headers and manifold with molded distributer cap painted.

now the bodies. first the gloss rod. this didnt come out as well as i had hoped. after the pictures i sanded it down again and will respray tomorow.

and then the rat rod.

and the engines and bodies mocked up.

so much more to do with this. i have a plan for the plug wires and assorted hoses and such. need to work on the chassis and axles before i put it all together but at least i have gotten this far.

Those are two nice looking Rat Rods. I love how they're turning out. Very nice indeed.
