The Duke Finishes Three More in December

Granted they are all shelf queens that were waiting on missing parts and rigging, but they are finally done. Here they are, starting with the German Eindecker.

This is the 1/72 scale Airfix German Eindecker E.II. It was waiting for a missing wheel and propeller. The remaining wheel was removed and both were replaced by wheels from an Albatross kit that was missing too many parts to build. The missing propeller was replaced with a spare from an ACE Aerosan kit. Then it was rigged:

Now this Eindecker was a part of an Airfix Dogfight Doubles kit giving you two kits of adversaries in one box. So, the adversary this Eindecker was dealing with is this 1/72 scale Airfix British Be-2 biplane. It sure went together better than the Eindecker did:

This last one is an Eduard bagged kit of a 1/72 scale German Albatross that I got with the Red Baron triplane. This one was finally rigged with the two above and rolled out to the dispersal area with the two above:

Just for fun, here's all the WWI planes I built in 2024:

These three had been sitting on my bench for too long so I took the time to get them done. I want to clear as many shelf queens off the bench for the new year. So far, I might get another one or two models done before the new year. Until then, thanks for looking in, comments are welcome.

Thank you Chris! I might try to finish it, but I got as far as I could right now. I don't have an adequate schematic to follow so I got done what I could with what I have.

I got photos of a DV when I visited the RAF Museum and you could always use Wingnut Wing instructions for reference.

You may find a pin vise and a #78 drill bits both ease and speed your rigging efforts. Drilling dinky holes to pass Lycra rigging thread through in the fuselage wings and struts allow a guy to fit most of his rigging in long runs, before he tacks it in place with a teensie amount of c/a glue. This stuff flexes, so if you bump it, it springs back. It's also much more accurate diameter for your "Man Scale" builds as well.
You will want an opti-visor or magnifier and good lighting to be able to see what you're working on.

Your build pace is pretty speedy. Rushing this sort of rigging will not serve you. In fact, it may piss you off at first.

"Rhino, do I have to all the rigging and control wires?"
Saints preserve us, no! I don't run every bit of rigging on my sailing ships. Tim A. does, but he's a friggin' GENIUS.

The effect will amaze you and your model peers! (Go Mark, go Mark, go Mark!)

Everybody starts someplace, and I get that. If I can do it, anyone can!

Kermit Weeks bought one of Pete Jackson's 1/1 scale Albatros DV a's. It fun to watch the "Wizard of Orlampa" clatter about the sky in Her.

Hey Mark, hope all is good with you out there. Had heard there were some bad fires going on, but didn't realize till last night late just how BAD they really were. It looks like a whole lot of LA is becoming moonscape. I will give you a shout later this afternoon.

I talked to Mark yesterday. He is fine. His family back in Ohio (?) has been pestering him and worried sick.
He said that he is far enough away that there is no smoke at all, clear skies, and no sign of the fires. He said the Eaton fire is the closest and it isn't that close.
I looked up some maps yesterday. Here is what they looked like yesterday morning. The Palisades burn at that time was something like 37 square miles.
The fires. The Palisades is the largest on the coast. The Eaton fire is inland. Don't remember the little one.

There is a UTuber that does car stuff that I follow and she is pretty decent. She and one of her friends drove around and took videos. The winds broke a whole bunch of power poles in half and other damage that she showed.

Paul is right, I'm in no danger here from any of the fires. The little one was the Hurst Fire, and it is about 95% contained. My family in Florida has been constantly checking in too, nobody seems to realize the sheer size of the LA Metro area. Also, I'm in LA County, but way to the east just above that straight horizontal separating LA County and Orange County. From where I am; I can see no smoke plumes during the day, nor any red glows at night, that is how far away I am.

BTW, I might be coming out there for work in April, let's see if we can get some lunch. The plant I'll be working at is right next to the former March AFB. I think that's relatively close to you.
