TRUMPETER KV-1 1942 WIP

Mike,
Where is the chrome? Where's the smooth as glass finish? LOL. Great work so far. Coincidentally, Greg is building the same kit.

Hey Rob! Glad you could make it over here, I know you'll like it! No chrome on this one, or the glossy paint for that matter, kind of a nice change of pace for awhile! I'm sure Greg's will be outstanding, as usual.

Hey mike, that KV is looking really good so far. I love those Trump KV's, good fit and lots of detail to them. Looking forward to seeing the paint and weathering of that beast.

Rob

When I saw it, it looked pretty good. Of course, he's been popping out finished dioramas at a rate of one per month now that he doesnt work. lol.

That doesn't surprise me that Greg is really churning them out, wish I could be there to see them! I did manage to get a little done this PM, while watching the Steelers win!!!
Got my Aber PE set in the mail last week and decided to see what happens.

The handle of an X-Acto knife is almost perfect to fit the curve needed.

Gentle pressure will coax the grille to the proper shape.

Ready to assemble, use small dabs of 3M Quick Dry Adhesive (thanks, chukw!)
IMG_2027.jpg

All done!
IMG_2028.jpg

Much better than the kit supplied plastic parts, no?
IMG_2029.jpg

Careful, comrade! My stick is loaded and I am not afraid to use it!
IMG_2009-1.jpg

That's about all for today's update. :peace

No solder on this one, Rob, just the 3M Quick Dry Adhesive. I kind of glossed over the gluing bits, but the 3M works great and dries clear. Cheap enough too and can be found wherever scrapbooking stuff is found. Thanks for the compliments, fellas! Wish I had more modeling time!

Really nice PE work here Mike. Getting that stuff to round out properly is never easy, you make it look easy.

What is that, a little piece of marble you're working on?

Thanks, Bob! The Aber stuff really bends well, while still being thick enough to hold its shape. I've used other brands before, but the Aber product is great to work with. B)

That's a piece of ceramic tile I got from Chris' bathroom remodel, great cutting surface for working PE. Cheap too! B)

Thank you, Johnny, sorry for not replying earlier! More progress today!

Painted the lower sides of the hull with dark green, since I plan to muddy things up a bit. The tracks are hand painted with Tamiya Red Brown, will get a dark wash and some dry brushing.

IMG_2034.jpg

There is still some touch up necessary, but just getting started.

Comrade with the stick with colors and highlights, coat of Future, ready for oil washes.

IMG_2035.jpg

Comrade, I have no eyes or eyebrows, da?

IMG_2036.jpg

Fenders on! I had to sand the braces down to make them look more to scale and so they would fit tight to the hull.

Still waiting on a few more aftermarket parts to arrive, but so far, I'm pretty happy with my Soviet Monster, da?

Thought I'd try the workable clasps for the cleaning rod tube, holy moley, are those things small!

IMG_2041.jpg

As compared to my super glue palette...

The carpet monster took a swipe at one half, but missed!

IMG_2039-1.jpg

Gonna try to build the other one, not sure I have enough patience tonight! :woohoo:

Thanks StuG! I just finished the other clamp, talk about testing ones patience! The first one went together much easier, although gravity didn't get involved with the second one, it just didn't want to stay together!

Awfully small for a guy with fumble fingers!!! Going to quit for tonight AND HAVE A BEER!
:drink

Love all the KV Series.
Wish someone would come out with a decent KV-85 in plastic.
Keep the pictures coming. Looks great.
