Tamiya 1/48th Dora. All finished

This one was supposed to be something I did last weekend, but I got kidnapped into other more funner things :kiss: .

Any ways, There is a somewhat boring football game on tonight, so I am going to try to knock this out in the next day or two starting tonight.

As with any wingy thing I always start with the cockpit.

Then to make it more like an actual D9 I cut out the landing gear bay area that is missing on the real thing to make room for a bigger engine and plumbing.

Then I put in just a little bit of strip styrene to make the visible area a little less bare.

And then I cobbled up some indescriminate junk (mostly from an old Dragon M-4 Sherman) to do a total "gizmology" thing so there is something in the gaping hole that results from cutting the landing gear bay open.

This is really the most time consuming aspect of throwing these kits together for me. I may be able to finish the rest of the construction tonight before that ole chubby guy in the red suit shows up.

That's some really nice fudging there, Gary- looks like A-1 modeling fun. I hope Santa brings you some nice praesints- you've been a good boy! :peace

Wellllll. Maybe just one possibly two things that aint quite rite there :laugh:

I take on airplane modelling with the "Anti Chuk" attitude. That is to say that accuracy and beauty are of no concern to me at all . After all, who is going to be creepin into my modelling cave to lift up this girls skirts to see whats really under there once I finish with her. All I needed was something to be barely peeking out once she is sitting on her shelf :pinch: .

Hi Cheyenne: Oh yeah, if you want a simple build to clear the pipes so to speak, you can't beat an airplane. They are so simple. All yah gotta do is see how Chuk does em :laugh: .

Thanks Leopard 2. I am trying to do this quick and sweet, but I keep getting in my way .

Things like this keep slowing me down. I should never have done it, but, well, here it is. Probably the last time it will ever be seen again.

And here is the result of the gizmology in the landing gear bay.

And this shot shows why it really wasn't important to me to get any details even close to accurate down there.

Just general vague shapes is all I was looking for, and that is what I got. I am happy with it, so now I can try to just put the pieces together and finish this kit before the weekend is over. I just hope I don't get in my way again with some silly superdetailing ideas again.

Well here it is 2010 already. But I have been doing things a little bit at at time on this sweet little kit. I have somehow managed to keep the super detailing to a bare minimum. Something that is sooooo very hard for me. But I got through it. I now have the mafority of the paint job done, and the decals are next. Then it will be the final weathering and touch up and it will be done, and I can get back to work on my little Stug.

More to follow after I do some decaling tonight and tomorrow.

Thank you for the kind comments . I have always liked the Luftwaffe mottled camoflauge paint jobs. And with the D-9 I had the choice of mottle or none with hard edge. And about 20 - 30 absolutley wacky schemes as at the end of the war the Germans were litteraly kit bashing diffrent planes together just to keep a supply of airplanes that could fly. You could see some of these planes with about 8 diffrent colors AND areas of bare metal by the last weeks of the war. But I went for something a little more "average" I guess.

And now I am at the part that I like most after the actual building and improving/scratch building. The decals, and weathering. To me this is the part where the kit finally "comes alive" to me

So now heres what I managed to do last night instead of sleeping hmy: ,AGAIN :pinch: .

OOOoooopppssss . It is always an interesting situation when I think something is done and ready for the next step. So I take some photos and post em here, then I see a huge mistake. I sat up all night doing the decals and I missed something :pinch: . Can anyone spot what it is ?

You can see the same problem in this photo also :huh: . At least I don't go to contest anymore, this would be really embarassing :woohoo:

I still have a couple of little things left to do like the weathering, the antenna (last thing I will do on it), touch up painting little things here and there, and fixing some of the overspray on the wing leading edge hmy: , etc etc. And of course my really big miss that I will fix as soon as I finish this :laugh: .

Well, I think underwing crosses were fairly normal.........

nice build, I really like the mottling....now I have my new airbrush I might have a go at a wingy thingy....I have a 1/48 Tamiya He219 started thats been sitting in its box for about 1000 years.hmmmmm

Well,

did you fix it? I noticed that the camouflage demarcation on the engine bay is different on each side. The natural metal under-surfaces which explains the 'putty' on the main landing gear doors makes for an interesting scheme but it does need some crosses to keep friendly fire off. Unless you painted the lower surfaces in a camouflage color. I see nothing but a beautiful (but glossy) bbutcher bird.

Well IowaBrit, you managed to spot what I was refering to. And Saul, Wow. I need to pay more attention to everything .

It took me a little over two weeks to get this done. Which is waaaaaaay more than I intended for this thing. It was going to be just a weekender, but then I found all this reference on the thing, and I was off. It all started with me looking for photos of the engine showing through the wheel bays. And ended with all kinds of crazyness.

It really began when I wanted to add some detail to the plain propeller hubs. A quick fix really to put the bolts on. But then I read that the propellers themselves were the wrong shape :pinch: . So I fixed them the best I could.

It's hard to see it, but I did a little bit of stuff on the landing gear too.

And of course I did the other side

Then I put the plumbing into the drop tank.

And seeing as they were so wide open, I had to do those flap actuator thingys.

And yes, I did put the Luftwaffe crosses on the bottom of the wings.

And here is what it looks like after all the little things I did to it as I watched all the bowl games and the NFL.

If I had not gotten into all those little things here and there, I probably would have been done with it in about 3 or 4 days, but I am still happy with how it turned out. And it will fit very well next to the Me-109 I did last month.


And I looked all over the place, but I couldn't find boots anywhere .
