Stay safe in the Southern States

I'd rather face two feet of snow than a tenth of inch of ice any day. Even if you have 4 or AWD, you still have to stop.

What I don't understand is why is always a run on milk, eggs and bread? 'Storm comin', must make french toast!'

I'll stick to Guinness and beans. I can get through any storm with those. ;)

And prepping for possible power outage we pick up stuff to eat...like Microwave popcorn... :blink

Snow Day!

OK, Ice storm day.

Cognac, open fire and, depending on the circumstances the appropriate snow bunny - :smack

When I was a kid I used to go places that had never had electricity, the magic of a winter night is unbelievable under the moon light - mind you, if the skies are clear then you know it's cold.

Stay safe, keep warm fellas (y)

Looks like we're getting hammered here. No we didn't go to the likker' store... :facepalm

Bad thing about it is, in my line of work it's really no reason for me not to be working. :facepalm :facepalm

It just started snowing here.

Women's hockey game just finished up, Canada steals one 3-2 over USA. :(

Time for a beer.

The kids are off, The Walking Dead edition of Risk is out for delivery today, the dog just got neutered yesterday and is still giving me dirty looks, I guess I'm ready for the foot of snow.

Just stay away from the one with the sharp knife and keep an eye on the dog :rotf

It's been snowing here for three solid hours and the back yard is nearly white . :idonno

Cheers, Christian B)

It finally started snowing here about noon, and about 12:30 it started picking up, and I think we've got close to an inch on the ground now. National Weather Service is predicting 10" for us up here in Mooresville.

Kids school is closing early tomorrow...I hope mine follows suit...if so, a game of Carcassone will be in order

The wind has picked up, the temperature has gone down, the sleet is pounding the side of the house and I'm headed for the recliner and a beer. How's that for staying safe? :coolio

End of the day. Took a ride around the area and took a friend, we rode about 7 miles around the interior of town. I had to slliddeee out to get traction in the parking lot, but the roads were worse. Rosewood -main road by me- was two sets of ruts and 4 inch walls. Most traffic was paying attention, but the roads are rutted and frozen now.

When we were on our little trip, I'm driving, folks would still try to pass on the right! They would try and the pileup by the curb would push them away. Funny, we are already doing 30 on a frozen wet street going downhill> Coming back the only way i could get back was to make nothing but left turns! Most gas stations are closed, a couple of bars were open. A CVS and Bilo- that was about it. But we covered about 7 or so miles during the recon. I went back out an hour later and grabbed some beer and a pack of smokes. More people were out, and the roads were turning into a stiffer slush- main ice layer in our area of Columbia was just at 1 inch but some drifts were higher. Underneath a good bit of the ice layer lies little and not quite huge water pockets that will form sheets themselves later.

This stuff could take weeks to melt away. This is the worst ice storm that I can recall since the blizzard of '73.

Hope others were as fortunate. Be good. CR

Our turn now, light snow has started, suppose to pick up in intensity this afternoon and tonight before ending tomorrow morning some time. Kids happy; no school today and potentially tomorrow as well, next week is February vacation. The mix line, where freezing rain and sleet mixes in has been sliding further SE since yesterday afternoon, we are now solidly in the all snow zone, looking at about a foot. Will be going into work early this afternoon, last week we had a storm so I took a snow day, and made up my time Friday, but I like my three day weekends too much to do that again :D Stay safe all,
Ernie

Stay safe, Ernie!

The sun is out, the temp is up to 41 and the snow is melting. B)
