Sherman Vc Firefly

I couldn't resist DML's online price for this slightly upgraded oldy of a kit. $19.99 brought a whole box of fun in the mail. I started with the turret.

Nowhere in the box was the commanders peep sight, or the top of the vane sight. I scratched both of those. I also used aluminum tube to better replicate the smoke mortar muzzle.

The white tab is the suncompass platform. I've never seen a Brit tank without one. Try as I might I could noy properly fold the PE antenna guard. I made one from plastic strip.

I used the same strip to fill in and re sculpt the hull welds. I also scratched the sand shield mounting plate on the hull.

A bit of Miliput replicated welds. I scratched the plate over the MG location. The kit piece looked wimpy.

Oh yeah that's looking great! Did you texture the turret or is that the straight kit part?

Thank you all.

Terry I used Mr Surfacer over Bondo Spot putty for the turret.

James I am plugging away and you are free to watch!

Some hull detail, I found some Tasca spares which fit the bill for the track link mounts.

I took an old Tamiya wheel and added the mount with styrene hex rod and stretched sprue.

I got some paint on her today, but am waiting for daylight to photograph my progress.

'till tomorrow then.

Paint!

Base is a 5 to 4 mix of Tamiya Olive Green and Olive Drab with a drop or two of yellow. Black is straight Tamiya Flat Black for better contrast. masked with Silly putty for the first time and boy do I like that! Easy to form and easier to remove after painting.

Jim the box art and kit decals reflect a Firefly from, I believe, C Squadron, 2nd Regiment, Polish 1st Armored Division.

Naturally DML gives no references other than 1st Armored Division.

Amen to that! This was my first time using Silly Putty and I loved it! One thing I did do was use Tamiya acrylic thinner instead of laquer thinner for the black paint. I wasn't sure what laquer thinner would do to the Silly Putty. All in all I needn't have worried as I sprayed so little black paint. It's just enough to cover and barely there.

Ok, well I have been building, but life kept me from posting. I really enjoyed the build as it's a subject I normally don't deal with. Most, if not all, my armor is in two catagories, DAK North Afrika and USMC in the Pacific. I was so enthusied I ordered the Sherman Ic composite hull Firefly.

I'm calling this finished.
