Yes i think the brass in this PE set is a slight problem on the sharper folds but i supose you could aneal it but then that could raise other issues unless you get it just right, i dont think i would want to anneal a spru given the various sizes of the parts and their various heat sink properties , i can see small parts burning next to larger parts, some of the links in chains and shackles here are microns.

An example this evening why i am struggling on with PE but i am sure 3D could match this. The plastic ones seem to have a winding handle but the PE ones dont, just a brake lever. i wonder if they were electric or manual.

Nope, kit part is chunky and fat. That PE is well suited here. Do you think the real things were hand operated?

Hi Bob, i have only just realised what these are i think they are hose reals for fires etc, i was thinking they looked like powered winches so as hoses they would be hand operated , my PE ones above dont appear to have any handles but maybe they just span the drum to wind them in.

How much would it take for a fella like you to whip up some handles?

Ok these are rope reels for storing rope and the handles were detachable like a car starting handle. They wouldn't have been left on the drum.
