Revell 1/144 HMCS Snowberry

Every build is a learning experience. Turns out I am "still" modding my sFH18 Howitzer even though I said that was done a week or so ago. I am enjoying the modding and building on it though and every little bit just seems to add to the appearance. It lost the "kit" look a while back and it is looking "complex" now.

Well the PE got from Korea , 6500 miles to the UK in less than 36 hours , its currently 20 miles up the road at the airport and its been there 5 days....
I despair at the way the UK is spiralling down. Nothing seems to work anymore. We are officially a broken country.
Meanwhile i have been building a metal MFH motorcycle chain as i have a couple in stock and its always useful to have one built up , and i have found the H&S i bought and forgot about and have been playing with that.
I am not sure what to do with the ship, museum finish or rough and ready? so i sprayed the back end inside panels mat black and have been using the H&S to fine fill the panels with insignia white., the object being can i control the paint flow within a 1/4 inch square ? Actually its easy and with MRP paint the very fine pigment works and you can spray at about 10psi from very close to the work. All credit to the H&S, not me :) This is making me think i might go for the well used look, needs some red misting on the black before the white and maybe a little more white.

So far so good Paddy!
I got set on the H&S airbrushes by some of the high end figure modelers that frequent Wonderfest. Ever since the first one I bought I have not regretted getting them.

Its a bit of a "learning on the job" for me because i have only ever used an airbrush as a cheaper option for a rattle can so a lot to learn about fine work.

I found a really good site in NZ called micro master models that specializes in 3D print parts for ships however the poor chasp is a sole trader and is suffering long term health issues so not taking orders.....blast...been closed since June . I have loads of sympathy as i was a sole trade with bike parts and you just cant be ill, its 24/7 and i mean 24.......... people from the other side of the world would ring at 5 in the morning. Internet shops are always open whatever time zone you are in.. Bottom line is i suppose buying 3d is cheating anyway :rotf

look at these lovely parts for my ship :(

Yeah AM (aftermarket) stuff is always something that can cause you to go all AMS. I have had the 1/32 Revell He111 P1 in my stash for years, and apparently Revell is re-releasing it as Sprue Brothers here in the US just got a load of new AM for it. As I didn't have any AM for it, (I checked first) I went for it. It builds into a truly LARGE model and now it will be noodled out as well.
Don't ask what I spent. :wow:

Its ok , i don't know what came over me. I confronted my aftermarket cravings and i have banished them from my thoughts. Bottom line is the kit was £59,00 the PE was £150.00 you could easily spend that again on 3D and you are into MFH money with nothing like the quality... then plus postage and taxes and on top of that, unknown quality. I will get more fun out of scratching what i need over fitting parts someone else printed anyway :)
As for abundant English charm ? things are about to boil over here i think, in my 67 years i have never known the undercurrent of dissatisfaction as strong as it is now on the streets I doubt any foreigners would find the english charming these days. :rotf Diesel hit £2.08 a litre today thats $12.60 a gallon.......you are looking at $140 USD to fill up a small car

Holy Guatamollies! The Media coming out of UK says nothing about this, and we know why. Keep your wits about you, mate.
BTW, 3D printed parts on scale ship models is not cheating in my book. It does get expensive quickly, as you have cleverly discovered without my help.

In the scales you work in PE would be essential but this is 1/144....its huge :rotf As for the UK ? you like your food Chris, A decent sirloin is about $30.00 lb now a couple of small smoked mackerel that were £1.50 are now £5.50 in the space of less than a year. There is talk now of the UK going bust. Tax is now highest its ever been per % of GDP and debt is now £3 trillion so the interest on the debt is more than the entire income tax take each month....As morbid as it sounds it will be interesting to see what happens .. this is not really a political point as the downward spiral has been about the same rate under either party and its a global phenomenon but there is a massive rise in the far right across Europe especially Germany and France.

I have been following a lot of the events going on over there through pod casts. Benny Johnson for one covers a lot of the crazy stuff going on around the world that gets edited out by ALL the mainstream news media. One of the things he has posted about is the importation of men from African sources which has caused a lot of strife as well.
I do worry about you my friend when I hear about all that. It is invasion plain and simple and all of Europe is getting whomped with the same crap.

Chin up and stiff upper lip mate.

It doesn't really affect me Paul if i am being selfish, I'm 67, i have somewhere to live and its paid for, i don't work now so i don't pay income tax but i do get £1k a month state pension. We were a country of 55 million when i was leaving school, we are now 70m and that's almost all due to immigration.. so the population has increased by 15m or 27% but there has been no noticeable increase in housing or schools or hospitals, roads, airports or trains in fact most things have remained stationery. Food production, energy production, water supplies and so on have decreased, defence has massively decreased to the extent its not really fit for purpose. Social security is now £333 billion a year or 25% of government spending. Net Zero carbon output has decimated industry, we cant even produce raw steel anymore because the electric smelters cant get hot enough and we closed all the coal fired ones. Likwe wise we closed all the coal fire power stations....and built millions of windmills and solar panel farms but no one seems bothered about the coming winter when the wind dont blow and the sun dont shine :) and 20 million people plug their electric cars in over night ......
As i say its not one party or another and its not really political, its global overpopulation and that population is moving north as the global temperatures rise. Its only going to get worse and pretty quickly in life time terms, i would say in 20 years it will be catastrophic.

As for immigration ? I doubt you get the full story on that either ? France sends tens of thousands of migrants over the channel each year. They don't want them. They send them in cheap rubber dinghies' that carry up to 200 at a time with a 25hp outboard. they give the migrants life jackets, They escort them to the middle of the channel and into uk waters where they take the life jackets off them and head back to France. We have to pick them up and give them more life jackets. Each boat carries a child and a woman, maybe 2 or 3 of each. If you try and turn these boats back to France they threaten to through the women and children over board. So we have little choice but to land them in the UK and immediately they do that they claim asylum and they are subject to international law not UK. On the journey over these guys throw all documentation, passports phones, anything that can identify them overboard. This means no one knows who they are or where they cam from which makes sending them back almost impossible. They could be isis or Irg or anyone frankly..

So this is the extent on the Pontus PE which i am informed is now at the local post office

As you can see most things you would favour 3D print for are actually catered for in PE. Tomorrow i will try and detail the PE frets here and asses what might be doable and what's not for my fat fingers. What will be really helpful is the You Tube video of how to do this especially for a first time builder like me, as i say its nearly 20 hours long but i have watched 5 hours now and its strangely hypnotic, almost calming watching someone else build a model. i am actually looking forward to watching the next stage tonight , its totally absorbing.

What a load of golden metal! 👍
If you want more hypnotic ship modelling videos check out a YouTube channel called Boomer Diorama. He's a railroad guy, but has a build log of his 1/200 HMS Hood.
