Pz.Bef.Wg III Ausf. H

While I wait for some things for my Pfalz I felt a need to build and felt WWIIish so here we go.

From Dragon Models "In WWII a number of German command tanks containing long-range radios were created based on standard gun tanks, and one of these was the Panzerbefehlswagen III Ausf.H. As its name denotes, it was based on the Ausf.H chassis, the first Panzer III version to be fitted with a 5cm KwK L/42 cannon. However, on the Pz.Bef.Wg. version no 5cm gun was fitted, with just a single MG34 for self-defense and a dummy gun to fool the enemy. A total of 145 such Ausf.H command tanks were produced from November 1940 till September 1941, plus an additional 30 from December 1941 to January 1942. "

It is especially interesting as the turret does not rotate but id rather a casement. More pics coming shortly.

Not much to show, but I did a bit yesterday before my cat George decided she needed my attention and then got up early today and did some more. Lower hull almost finished.

Slowly plugging away. My youngest son brought a nasty flu with him at Christmas and everyone is infected. I havent had much get up and go so havent done much with this.

I'm a bit disappointed also. I can find nothing anywhere on the interior. So instead of opening up hatches it will be mostly buttoned up. I guess that means I can relax on detailing the inside.

Good progress, hope you feel better. As to the interior, well its pretty much big empty except for radios. The Turret and gun are dummies (turret doesn't traverse). Doesn;t the kit come with an interior? I thought it did.

Yes, it does come with an interior, It just looks so empty though. Not sure of what else to add to it. I'll tell you though, the interior is probably one of the worst thing I have built in a while. The instructions are not particularly handy and there are no connection points that give you an idea of how it is assembled. The pieces all just kind of sit or abut and it was a pain to assemble. I think its right though. I'll have pics tonight. I'm not sure where the radio operator sits in here as there is just a command(?) shair and a drivers seat. I think I will look to see if anyone makes wooden chairs and if it would fit in. Also some on the rear deck along with a table for storage. I
ll paint this up and see if it will withstand scrutiny before I decide on opening the hatches or closing them.

Okay frustrating interior work. This is going to be buttoned up except for the cupola.

Interiors frustrate me too, seems like a lot of work that will never be seen again. Keep plugging. :good:

Thanks everyone. Feeling marginally better. Its in my chest now.
I did more work yesterday and here is where I am. The casement and superstructure are just sitting there at the moment. When the casement is finished I'll paint the insides creme weiss so they look okay through the small openings. Have to find pictures of the antenna mast so I can detail it up some. Its very basic right now.

Hoping I feel good enough to continue today although I need to work on my computer some, study my Redhat Linux Admin course, and write a review. We'll see how that works out today.
