Protar AJS 7R 350cc (1/9)

I ordered a couple of Decalcas 3D printed 1/12 chains today. this is another individual link system. they are slightly smaller than the MFH chain i built which is presenting problems as i cant get the assembled chain inside the chain guard . Unfortunately i have had to order from Spain as they dont seem to have a UK distributor

Since i have been building cars and bikes i keep coming across items categorized by Scale which is really annoying because these types of link chain come in all sizes and 1/9 or 1/12 tells you nothing :) You see it in all parts, i bought some 1/12 brake caliper bleed nipples for a car build and they were tiny and of course were scaled down M6 for a bike and not std M10 for a car. same with calipers, a bike calliper is a third of the size of a car caliper so 1/12 tells you nothing....

The real success story here is that if i can build an MFH chain, i have three MFH motorcycle models in stock that i have not really looked at because of the chain issue. Best of all i have been on a downer with my recent builds, just couldn't do what i wanted to do but suddenly i feel like i can do anything :dude:..except paint figures :rotf

Decals were 50 years old and filthy

Am not using the number boards but i needed the tank decals. The pinstripe broke in 4 places and it took 1/2 hour to get the parts sitting right so you cant see the joins...well nearly cant , you can in this 4x close up pic :) I was worried i had washed the glue away after all that time and wetting but they stuck and here they are gloss clear coated.
Another success.....with my luck on this build i am thinking of doing the national lottery :rotf

Looks like the bottom bit of the pin strip fell off and got gloss coated below ...lol You have to laugh with these decals or you would cry :)

My problem is the chain guard round the primary drive chain is very tight and will not fit the MFH chain

The chain doesn't fit inside the guard when its on the sprockets. Either need to reduce the sprocket size or see if the Decalcas chain is slightly smaller when it arrives fro spain

All these Isle of Man race bikes were "adapted" by the riders following crashes and repairs so if the new chain doesnt fit either i will make a new chain guard.

Don't ya just hate that! Now to solve that problem. Aluminum tubing isn't a possible solution either what with the bends. It will be interesting to see how you proceed with this Paddy.

Decided to try and make a new one. See how this one sits just under the gearbox instead of across the front of it.

i happened to have some 4.2mm styrene rod so that was lucky...... My luck does seemed to have changed after a summer of disasters :rotf

I have been notified that the other 3D chain i ordered from Spain will be here Monday, its been held up because we managed to crash our entire air traffic control system last week :) so all flights were delayed or cancelled for a few days.
Interesting to note in the small print of the Times today there is a small mention of a military aircraft entering “spurious” flight data into the system when filing a flight plan :) and crashing the system...... They seem to have glossed over that a bit, Still at least we know it works even if we did try it out on ourselves by mistake :rotf
