Phrozen Mega 8K S printer

You can look at photos all day long but you won't get a sense of how big this printer is until you see it in person. My previous printer was the Phrozen Mega 8K. The plate and vat on this are at least triple the size.

I am glad I ordered several bottles of resin. I am looking forward to printing my first model. It may take some study before that happens!

I feel your pain.
Last week the LCD screen on the LPP proportioner took a dump and all the magic smoke came out. The files for the pressure vessel were shaky so I upgraded to the 2.0 version from Smooth-On. The re-boot took HOURS! Then as if that wasn't enough, all the pressure calibration spec's were metric. Evidently I downloaded the UK/Canada software.
The USB's are unusually silly bastiges.
Now I gotta do math and everything!
OMAFA!!
Funny, we were having to deal with Metric IP addresses this weekend, the ones in Canada eh? @jknaus

Just a thought for you. I would suggest making a small box and a UV LED circuit with maybe 6 or so inches of wire between the box and LED. That way you can cure the insides of you prints if they are hollow. It will prevent them exploding or cracking later on. I printed my box in PLA, but resin is fine. You just need 3x 1.5 VDC batteries, UV LED, wire, 220Ohm resister and a switch. Here is an easy circuit.
My boxis put away somewhere safe, just not sure where. Here is another not very good article which shows what I am trying to say, but he didnt make a box to hold the electronics.

Found my little box.

When doing hollow prints I try to make the drain holes at least 4mm as the LED is 3mm. Then insert and turn on and wait a couple of minutes. Thats all it takes to ensure there is no uncured resin inside. Then there should be no issues with the resin expanding or gassing and cracking or destroying of your print. I guess I should put my screw inserts in and properly screw the lid down rather than this cobbled together sytem I have now.

This is a great idea! I won't hollow out the tiny car parts but for larger figures I can see this as a smart move for curing the innards.

I guess this is the place to keep putting these images. I hope my resin gets here soon so I can test the printer and see if it is really fixed.
This is the Phalanx CIWS (close in weapons system...I think). There are four on my ship and two of them are somewhere in my studio. I had springs holding them together but they sprung the springs and sprang away into the atmosphere, never to be found. These are tiny things and am not sure the printer will print with any detail at all, but that remains to be seen! This is easily the most complex thing I have made so far. Y'all can tell me if it is correct. There were just some photos I could not see details

Well, I put the new parts in the printer, spent a day tuning the exposure settings, and printed two gorgeous figures. The next print I tried printed the bases and nothing else. Hmm, there must have been something wrong with that file. I tried printing again with a different file set with the same parameters as the two successful prints. Same, nothing but bases and the rest was stuck to the vat film. I am at a loss. I am now printing another XP Test to check the settings. Gail is like "But you said it was printing!" "It *#@)!@&#%% WAS! I didn't change a thing. Now it won't print anything but the base". My sweet wife said, "Don't you have another printer picked out if this one gave you more trouble"...my face must have looked funny because she laughed. "Why, uhh...yes, it's in the cart and is a third of the price of this stupid one". "How much is the one you want?" "$550", "Hmm, OK, give me a couple of days" "What the!..actual F. Who are you and what have you done with Gail?!" "Watch it mister, you want it don't you?"..."yes ma'am, I do. Sorry"

I had left this sitting before submitting, so, Addendum before submitting this: The test print came out perfect, PERFECT! however, it is only about 3mm tall, and the other stuff that failed DID at least printed that high. I had set parameters all except exposure time back to factory before the test. But dang, it printed TWO completely normal prints and it was fast! What took six hours to print beautifully now says 13, but if it actually works then it works. I am still getting the other printer if she was serious!

I wonder why no naval personnel have done a CIWS like the robot Gort from "The Day the Earth Stood Still".
Waiting until the mount shoots an actual laser beam, perhaps?

Well, nope. The printer no workie. It actually froze at about 25mm and would not move. I turned off the machine and restarted it then raised the plate to find nothing but base layers on it. The was a very expensive lesson. Never buy Phrozen printers. Never.

"Phrozen". Hmm. What's in a name? Perhaps the emergency repair procedure is entitled "Defrost"? :bm:

Oh JAMES!?!? Wise and powerful 3D printing Oracle of the North,
Please help young Greg find his 3d printing groove.

There is no groove to be had with this printer. There are too many kinks to be worked out before it is ready for the public.

Even if you defrost the balky, prototype POS? Neptune 4 or Saturn 5 then?
James knows. Cheer up, Buddy.
You learn lots more from failure that you do from success.

They really are coming down in prices. Conversation came up again about buying one but if our North Ga hobby shop has one, why buy the printer, just sent the file over and have an excuse to go to Banjo land. :tomato:

I'd be baffled as well. Have you tried a different USB stick? Might be wonky, but I've never had that issue, I've just heard of others. I chose Elegoo as my first printer and have never looked back. I love the Saturn 3. Maybe one day might try the 3Ultra. Elegoo have released the Saturn 4 and 4 Ultra , but not enough features to upgrade this time. It has some nice features, but the build plate is a bit smaller than the 4 so not interested. I actually just found a heater and ordered it to have it arrive today. Will set it up in a bit and see if the prints are even better. https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B0BL6WZPM9?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details
Elegoo has the most incredible customer support also and I have been nothing but impressed with their products. Since my journey has begun in 3D printing I have bought the Mars 2 Pro, Saturn, Saturn S, Saturn 2, and now use the Saturn 3. For FDM I started on the Neptune 2, Neptune 3, 3Pro, and 4Max. Currently I use 3 printers, the Neptune 3 Pro and 4Max, and Saturn 3. I use Siryatech Navy Grey ABS like resin which is very fine and provides exceptional detail and strength. I have some clear Syryatech Ble which hopefully will make printing clear parts easy.

I guess this is a long rambling post to say I love Elegoo and have not heard a lot of good about Phrozen.

Elegoo Saturn 3 Ultra 12K is what I am looking at

Thanks James. Yes, I used an unused USB for each new attempt. (I bought a pack of 5 when I was having trouble the first time and Phrozen support asked me to try a new stick). I have had Phrozen mini 4k and an Anycubic 4K. I am looking forward to Elegoo. Thanks for the resin recommend. Siryatech is excellent.
