Man....that's sweet! Don't know why you're complaining about your photography, it's picking up those variations very well!

Tell us how you're doing this?

Using the base color lightened with a few drops of yellow for the lights. Black for the shadows. Paint with 80% of thinner.

I glued the two halves of the fuselage and rear fuselage. Putty.
Now a new work. Sand everything.
