Moonpup's Nemesis!

Laura,
Looks great, can't wait to see it throwing lead...
Moon Puppy, make sure you put the right decals on your plane,
the ones that look like cross hairs make it easier to target
you...

man, Laura, you have 'mad" skills I can only dream about and aspire to! That is some incredible work! Are you going to have a Moon-Pup pilot hanging off the raised barrel by his parachute???

thanx dudes!

today's motto: mishaps, bad luck and stupidity!

i completed the cruciform yesterday afternoon and wanted to have a look how everything looks together! now the gun sits too tight and i cannot get it off again without destroying vital parts! *yawn*

then i noticed that i had forgotten to glue the pe hooks for the ground spikes in place so it was taking a deep breath and cut away the molded on parts!

as if that wasn't enough i had my next good laugh when i wanted to glue part A28 in place and noticed that i should have glued it in place prior to fixing the cruciform! *yawn* after a laughing break (who believes that i laughed instead of loud cursing?) i took another deep breath, eye measured where i should trim the part and did another cut! i was lucky since my cut was absolutely vertical and at the perfect spot!

while holding the gun upside down to glue two important parts on the base one of the brass chains slipped out of the hook (RHS cradle!) but with a lot of luck i was able to insert it again!

i then noticed that i had forgotten to pimp the forward section of the center cradle but luckily this is a spot where the details cannot be seen!

then the travel lock! sheesh - THAT was a difficult work to replace the molded on details with pe! most careful cuttin and hollowing, inserting 0,5mm plastic rod, bending and finally gluing together everything! well - the part where the lock is hooked into the hinge broke away - of course! *yawn* - i'm thinking on how i will repair that (or not) ... maybe a small strip of paper will do the work! but the travel lock still is workable! the bumper thingies i didn't exchange since i was fed up with cutting fragile parts and since my gun will be in firing position this detail is not that important that pe replacement would be mandatory!

oh - btw.: when not busy cursing and yawning i permanently hummed and sung the "moon pup the pilot" song - can't get it out of my head!

I love that song! Of course, my girlfriend (way back then) insisted the words were:
"She's so POPular,
she's so POPular!"

Nice build Laura and thanks for the funny memory with the cool song.

Regards,

Laura,
It looks great and I hear Moon Puppy is trying to locate your
AA positions, so he can stay clear of them until they have
been saturation bombed.
I feel for you... (Now I know why I build most of my stuff out of
the box).
Again, if you didn't tell us, most of us wouldn't have known your
build has been such a hair pulling event. It looks great and is
way cool.
Thanks for sharing.

Woooooooooooow.

That is really starting to look super kewl (y) . And you see, it took a lost less time than you thought before it ended up on it's own four feet ;) .

However, the only way I know of for sure to get the gun back off the base is to believe deep down that it is there permanently. Then the next time you pick it up and turn it over to do something to it, it WILL come off the base :pinch: .That kind of thing works for me everytime :duh .

thanx dudes!

well - the hair pulling problems i faced (up to now!) were only due to me NOT paying enough attention and receiving what i deserved for it! both - the kit and pe - are a dream to build! sure, both aren't for beginners but when payed enough of attention there are no issues!

the only strange thing i experienced is that the voyager set for this kit is a little bit less detailed than the voyager set for the AVF-Club Flak18!

i'll start working on the trailers tomorrow and should be able to show something more by sunday! :)

thank you very much dudes!

i am afraid that i owe you guys an update since sunday!

well - first real life came in the way in the form of snow and taking care of rudy, then i realized how much work the trailers will be!

so shall we go on to stage 2?

[x]-Rx - Stage2

from monday until today i "only" managed to finish the first of the cable drums! a lot of work! there are only two plastic pieces remaining, everything else is replaced by pe! to align the pe properly i cut away the locators on the kit part brace for the fender and layed them in the recesses in the bogey, then dripped ca glue on them and placed the brass brace over it to ensure perfect alignment! then i assembled the brace, glued it on the bogey, continued with that box and finally glued the cable drum in place!

prior to all this lovely work i had to cut away all details on the trailer! pure fun since some left big holes where once a detail was!

so this is just a teaser to show you that i still work on this babe! three more cable drums to go!

Laura,
Looks great, WOW that was a lot of work. :)
But it really looks like it is paying off. ;)
Now I know why I stay away from P/E as much as possible.
It looks great when you do it, not so much for me. :eek:hmy:
I also know what you mean by life getting in the way.
Not enough hours in the day/night to do all the modeling
that I would like to do.. Ah, if only I could find a
job that paid me to build models with no expectations :silly:
or time line for a build... I could do that job forever.
(Back to reality now)... :S  :blink
Again, great job can't wait to see more pictures and the
end result...
Shawn

Hi Laura.

It looks good so far. I always have that moment of fear when I start cutting pieces of plastic to replace with brass. But you are doing a great job, and if the other reels come out like your first, it is going to be fantastic. But you better hurry, there is one of them darn Spitfires buzzing around, and thinking of dropping a couple of 5 inch rockets all over it  .

thanks dudes! :)

finally! the rear trailer is done! i made heaps of mistakes that i now can avoid with the front trailer! one wasn't repairable but luckily is in an invisible spot!

there still is a nasty seamline where the towing bar would be fitted if this was the front trailer but i will take care of that!

i need a break now before i start the front trailer! assembling this babe was more work than the entire gun itself! :blink

some may notice that some parts like the gun cleaning rod, the break lever and the lever for the winch i didn't replace with pe since the original kit parts are superior in detail and building those from pe would have been futile!

Very very cool. I must sat the pe looks way better than the plastic and your build has me looking at my guns.
