Latest Acquisitions Revisited!

Did all models have that type of nose gear or just the early Navy birds?

Only the Royal Navy Phantoms.

I'm getting this odd hankerin' to build an early Mustang, don't know why...

Well snagged a bagged kit of the A-36A off eBay:

I believe it was Old Dog who sent me his leftover bonus 1/48th scale decals from his 32nd second Hobbycraft kit so I can build this scheme:

and the second is this one, note that the nose is painted all the way to the top:

Negative Ghostrider,

That is the standard extension...

The RN Phantoms had a much longer extension.

As Rich has shown, the Brits weren't happy enough so they requested it to be extended as much as possible so they can look down their noses (of their aircraft :skipper ) at everyone. :fencing

I so totally disagree with your statement about f-4's . If you look at the NAVY phantom , you will notice the strut is at the fully extended position.

The F-5's also had a pneumatic system that would also extend the strut for the takeoff position .

Now look at the picture of this Brit phantom and notice that it has two sets of torque links and another section is extended .
To the best of my knowledge no US phantom had anything like that . This is a different strut altogether .

I know this is a model , but he's not going to launch without closing the front canopy .

Christian, who are you disagreeing with? I did state the RN Phantoms extended further than the USN models. This extended the nose leg to 40 inches to allow full take off weights using the less powerful catapults on the HMS Ark Royal by increasing the angle of attack.

No idea. So far I have had next to no luck with building. Getting past frustrated. The scouts are supposed to be for AMPS as the theme is recce this year. Your guess is as good as mine whether they actually get built.
