So this is a kit that has been on my "holy grail" list since i first discovered it online. Never thought I would see one, let alone actually get one.
It's a 1/48 Northrop N-3PB float plane. To my knowledge, the only one produced in 48 scale. It's a Vac kit and was produced by members of the IPMS Norway chapter for a short time and in limited numbers some time ago.
There is a bit of damage to a couple of the pieces but nothing that shouldn't be fixable.

Awesome find! When we start building?
...and THAT is why I download everything that I find interesting. Back in the early days of internet surfing (like when we used Netscape anyone remember that?) I discovered that stuff just did not stay put. So, if I wanted to keep it I always downloaded it. There were and still are times when that is quite a challenge, but there are ways.
Better safe than sorry. I can always delete it later.
On to a better remark, that IS a rather interesting float plane Warren! I don't think I have ever heard of it before. :hmmm

Hey Paul!
Wow!! Netscape Navigator! I used that for so many years before I went first to Internet Explorer and finally to Safari. I had forgotten all about that! It was THE browser for so many years! That was back in the mid-1980s, more than 30 years ago!
\How time flies!

In a bit, I need to do a lot of research for this one! Someone had posted a very nice detail build of this kit on Britmodeller and IPMS Norge forum in 2011 but thanks to PB, the images are no longer available!!

Warren, get in touch with Nils () as he has loads of photos of the surviving one near him at an aircraft museum. He is the one who built the kit at Britmodeller.
Search here for some photos, especially from recovery and restoration:

Good luck as I read it was a difficult build! Special Hobby makes one in Duke's scale (72nd).

I have seen quite a few of those build up here in SA and they look good when build upDon't think we've seen one of those built here so...
Looks like a nice kit, but I have heard lots of complaints about Kitty Hawk kits so we shall see.
Have one in my stash and was hoping Terry's BIG GB would get a go ahead some time so I can build mine
I don't build in that scale, but from those who do; I've heard that sometimes their kits are Tamiya quality and other ones are borderline short run worth of difficulty. Still, that would be cool to see built.
I also have that T-6 kit Terry. It looks like a decent kit in the box. The pass/fail comes when you do the research and ry and build it. I don't usually worry about minor fit problems but incorrect stuff from lack of proper research tends to bury kits for me.

Good to know. I might have to keep my eyes peeled. Not a big priority, but still an interesting aircraft to add to the collection.
The main issue for me was the propeller blades near the base. Interior is a bit spartan. It has various options but doesn't completely cater to them all. For example, the spade grips B13 & B14 in step one are for the Harvard. Depending on the variant, the rear seat should be on a swivel to be able to man the rear facing gun. The elongated exhausts, Parts F8/F9 in step 8, are for the Harvard. Frame-less and framed rear canopy is a nice start but the Harvards had a differing canopy (luckily catered to in clear resin by Alley Cat Models. The decals are for wardbirds (museum and privately owned) so the weapons are not used.
There is a second boxing of the Tomcat (French armed Texans used in Africa and passed on to other countries such as Portugal). The decals are OK but I bought a set from Zotz. Replacement wheels are nice as well as the seats and both can use any designed for the other North American product, the P-51 Mustang. Later on, I received a second kit with Zotz decals and Alley Cate canopies from James.
Regards,

West Coast Hobbys out of Port Alberni, BC has the Special Hobby kits on sale right now. One has marking from their operations as 330 Sqn out of Iceland and the other when they were in "Little Norway" bases while training in Canada. I picked up the second kit from them not too long ago.
Cheers,
Rich
