It's a duck !

Thank you all for looking in, and thanks to Mike for the offer. :)

Today was productive. I had already cut sprue to make a new strut and then it came to me

that there is another Duck in the stash !

Nothing like checking for the needed parts :hmmm . The size is nearly identical, they are much better formed and they have the pins.

A bit of cleaning up and eight holes drilled in the wings and we're good to go.

Here I thought this Airfix kit would never have any use . Now I won't even need a jig to install the wing :woohoo:

So, I'm on the next logical step.

I wish they really did make narrow tape. It would be very useful .

Thanks for looking . Cheers, Christian B)

Let's just say it's good use of an otherwise bad kit. :cheer:

In Air Force lingo it would be Cannibalizing .

Nice Chris. Gunze used to sell a tape that was something like1/16" Dont know if they still do. You might also find chart tape in the miniscule widths.
Looking good.Keep up the fight.

Christian I use this product - very good, and comes in 1 - 5mm widths.

Shame you had to use the Airfix struts, it looks an ok kit for the age??

Nice progress too!

Thanks Phil .

Never could bring myself to build the Airfix Duck. I've had it since 1994.

I believe the mold are 1950 vintage even though they have been reboxed and reissued as of late. I don't believe we'll ever run out of them.

I know the tape looks huge on your monitor but it's cut down 6 MM Tamiya . I'm only using about 1 MM width.

Cheers, Christian B)

Not sure if it's Tamiya tape Christian because the surface of the tape is much more vinyl feel than the surface of the standard Tamiya tape, plus it's more orange than the standard Tamiya roll

I like it much more than measuring a 45mm thick tamiya strip into small 3mm strips, lining up a steel ruler and cutting it by hand, this stuff is ready to peel off and mask up.

1mm is available as is 2mm 3mm 4mm and 5mm.

If it is then I wish they made it in the same width as the standard Tamiya roll!!!

Well, the only place I see it right now is Rucky Models , but yes it comes in 1mm .

Just could not understand all the Japanese writing.

Guess I'll have to place an order with them unless someone knows a better place.

Cheers, Christian B)

Yo Chris, great Thread! :dude

I don't know why I haven't posted here before, as I've been following it since it's start... weird! :gogo Anyway, you've done a fine job of putting that Duck together, what with all the little (and not so little) troubles it has given you - you've just kept on building steadily, albeit all that the kit has "thrown" at you. (y)

I will surely keep an eye on this cool build, waiting anxiously for the paint/weathering stage, one of my favorites! :eek:hyeah

Cheers and keep on plowing, man! B)

Thanks for the Info Phill. Once I got past the Japanese it made sense.

Thanks Fernao . I'm sure this kit still has some surprises but we'll iron them out as well :fencing

This update might not mean much to some of you but to me it is the turning point where we head for home.

It is now primed . Actually is cleaner then what I expected.... Remove a few impurities and a coat of Future is next.

I did the paint research the last couple of days and this color is as interesting as OD or Zinc chromate.

Paint on the way from Sprue Bros, so it won't be long.

Thanks for looking. Cheers, Christian B)

Ps to Fernao " It's only plastic "

Looking good Chris. Great inspiration beating it into submission like that. Really enjoying your build, even if you're not.
