Italeri Fiat 806 GP racer 1:12

This is the magneto mount

the bit on the side supports the steering column .
The problem is is 3mm thick and dominates everything , 3mm equates to 36mm or nearly 1.5 inches !!! That's one hell of a bracket.

This how it mounts

So it sits ojn the gearbox which is correct. The magnetos sit on the middle layer . IOn the drawings i found thats where it stops, that top layer is not there on the real thing ?

Note also the height of the fluid reservoirs on the floor which i have already "adjusted"

top view shows the magnetos with nothing above but there is no steering column bracket in this view

the problem with engineering drawings is they usually show just one mechanism and to do tat all other items are deleted so you need the full set of drawings which i dont have but this pic also shows no upper layer top the magneto bracket

in my opinion italeri just invented this bracket to support the steering column , knowing it would normally be out of sight anyway.

anyway it is what it is and i am not going for total originality , just experimenting with different ways of doing things and aiming for a nice car
"loosely based" on a Fiat 806 rather than a accurate reference.

I made a mock up of what i need to hold the Magnetos. i cant finalise it until i get the engine mounted and see where the steering column runs, then i can work out a bracket to hold it or adapt the magneto bracket to do the job

I have been experimenting with an aluminium finish, this is MRP titanium with a hint of yellow. it works depending on the light

I haven't even decided on a colour for this model yet :) It should be Italian Red but having built a Ferrari F1 car , An Alfa vintage race car, an Abarth endurance car and a Harley this year, all in ~Red. this model will be anything but red :) I am thinking black as it goes well with aluminium. the trouble with black is, Matt and Satin black are the worlds easiest colours to spay but Gloss black is probably the hardest... maybe thats a challenge i cant turn down :)

Yea that can work well, i did that on a previous car build with a Flat red and gloss coat. I might try satin black and Gloss clear as the satin will give a smoother base coat.

I did that years ago on a car model that due to weird problems at the final assembly I didn't finish. The paint is still as glossy as it was originally though the clear coat has yellowed with age and the white detail is now a cream color which looks almost better than the original white.

I spent some time changing the rod here from plastic to nickel silver but strangely the advantage turned out to be i could reverse the lever on the end to make everything fit... Italeri seem to have moulded this part on upside down :)

If you look here the lever points up at 45 degree while the spring and cylinder is underslung from the mount. if you were to have the lever pointing down the control rod goes directly into that engine mount lug sticking out above and the peddle/button for the clutch on the other end is not lined up with the two foot peddles.
