Italeri Alfa Romeo roadster 8c 2300 1/12

I still don't know how you car guys get such clear, clean paint work, it's flippin amazing. Ruck On, Paddy!

Its just tamiya rattle cans Steve
You dont need much colour but 3-4 coats of clear so you can cut it back with 4k wet/dry and polish without going through to the colour :)

Wow, that's impressive actually. You certainly have the experience though, still hats off to ya for a fine finish. I surely missed the polishing part and that's probably why my finishes don't look so swell.

My investment in a model stand to aid working also serves as a coffee mug :)

As is often the case the instructions are pretty lacking TBH .....Having finished the radiator surround a while ago i now find i have to fix lights to it.

There is no mention of headlamps or brackets but in step 32.... the model in the pictures suddenly has lights, no mention of fixings or parts or numbers..they just magically appear ,🤣 Obviously they issued this as a race car version without fenders or lights etc first and the instructions missed the update . you need to work out where they go and drill your own holes.

I got the lights on to the rad surround without any mishaps :)
You have to mask off and add you own chrome surrounds.

This a problem i have with this period of car...
The ignition leads are usually in a conduit to keep them away from hot or moving parts. This kit supplies you with a conduit but its too small to be of any use when you consider it would have to carry at least 4 ignition leads. So once again i made my own from alloy tube

the plastic kit version at the top.

The instructions obviously dont think the kit version is up to much as they completely ignore it and run the leads from the distributor to the plugs direct

this my solution, its not perfect because the leads are too thick really although they are half as thick as the lit supplied plastic tube.

While being know for TMI, I gladly admit I don't know everything! I would not have known a darn thing about the leads being too big as I admire the work. When I am blissfully ignorant of details, I revel in what could easily be 'gizmology' (to use Shep Paine's terminology).

That's quite something there! I love me a "Shiny". I enjoy judging automotive categories in IPMS shows, even though I am no longer an IPMS/USA member. I lack the discipline to make a really good, smooth, glossy automotive finish.

Forewarned is forearmed they say and i know i had major troubles fitting the hood and side last time, see first picture in the thread.

This time i have spent a lot of time planning it out and and TBH its going to be a compromise because of the number of inter reliant parts that need to be assembled and fixed simultaneously .
also note where i have added wired bolts the hood no longer closes fully. Oh well, its better than the first attempt but i cant really see how to improve things, the saving grace is 99% of these kits would displayed with the hood open thus removing the problem.

Thanks Paul

Next job is to get the mudguards to line up and sit over the wheels :)

Its all been really rather fun, i think i might be past my 2024 "everything is going wrong" phase 🤣
