Rear axle is complete-ish and i cant go a lot further without an engine...

Rather bizarrely i have no recollection of building this kit before even though it was only a year or so ago...
In particular, how did i get the spacing and positioning for the lock wired bolts. They are not impressed into the kit parts so i must have marked each panel out and drilled them ?
I can see what i did from my last build pictures but i must of got a reference from somewhere for positioning. Anyway i will probably use my own build as a reference now :)

First time round i use slot head screws, laid the wire in the slot and put a dob of super glue on it which worked ok but in truth even using the smallest screws i could find (12BA) i think they were still over size.

This time i am using 3D printed bolts, smaller than the screws i used before but a lot more fragile.

These have 0.7mm stems so i can drill 0.8mm

remembering to get the hole for the wire pointing in the right direction which is no mean feat as i cant see the hole with the naked eye :)

I cant remember if i glued these in and flushed them on the back or drill them through into the Chassis , i think i drilled them through as it would have been hard to flush brass screws but i may try and flush these as they are printed.
 
Are they not some dimples around those edges suggesting the bold heads? Maybe that was your reference?
 
I'd say your best guess is as good as any. Weren't these cars hand built? So that bolt spacing could be irregular.
 
Something to consider Paddy, the bolts stop where they stop, so on the real car they were "NEVER" perfectly aligned. Place them how you want and run the tie wire as best you can.

That engine and chassis are so "PURDY" OMG! I love how they are turning out! Almost makes me want to get out my Pocher kit and start on it. (almost have too many irons in the fire already)

I decided to see one panel right through to make sure this system of lock wire bolts and wire would work.

I drilled the side panels that sit on the chassis then transferred them through to the chassis

That will work i think, and this is the front panel finished

This wasnt to bad to do but then its a 1.5 inch loose panel, it might be a different story trying to do this with panels fitted to the car.. The wire is 0.1mm which is 3 thou in English . about the thickness of a fine hair. It might be better to get some thicker wire and not twist it.
 
Gorgeous Paddy. Just amazing work. As for the bolt holes for lock wire, if you want them to be positioned a certain way just thread some fine wire through them and use the wire to hold and position them. I've had to do that with real bolts that have to be inserted blind. Looped lock wire through and used it as a handle to insert blind bolt and screw then in a couple of threads. Then pull wire, torque the bolt and then try and find the hole again blind to start lock or witness wiring them.

Paddy, your stuff always inspires me to achieve better model building, unfortunately, I don't heed much to inspiration these days due to advanced age. :oldguy::lol:
