How many hobby knives do you have?

Thought I'd start a fun topic after a short discussion w/ nsmekanik in the latest acquisitions thread.

So I thought I'd ask, how many hobby knives do you have on your bench?

I went and looked, and found I have 12, with 8 of them being used on a regular, or semi-regular basis.

From right to left:

X-acto comfort handle w/ std #11 blade

X-acto blue handle w/ #17 chisel

X-acto handle w/ #10

X-acto blue handle w/ std #11

X-acto aluminum handle w/ "Z-Series" titanium coated blade

X-acto pink handle w/ #10

X-acto pink handle w/ #16 scoring blade

Excel handle w/ either Excel or Revell brand generic #11 (dont like either blade or handle, not really sure why I've even got either still)

Excel handle w/ Excel swivel blade. Works pretty nice for cutting decals, so gets used predominantly for that.

Empty X-acto aluminum handle

X-acto Type B handle, basically used like it is, w/ a saw blade.

X-acto Type C handle, also for use w/ saw blades.

I have about 10 mostly with diffrent blades About 4 have no 12 blades BUT THEY NEVER SEEM TO BE SHARP :frantic

Ugh, I've had that happen. A couple years ago was building, and one rolled off the desk and just speared right into my thigh. Thankfully it was literally a brand new blade. I'd put it in not long before, and hadnt used it to cut anything. Went in the full length of the blade.

How many of those have rolled off the table and stuck you in the leg :rotf :tomato

Five. Three normally on the bench. One with a dull #11 for scrapping seams. One with a sharp #11 for trimming and a scalpel blade in the third that double as a spatula.

I have many but I use mainly two, "Tamiya modelers knife" and "Tamiya design knife". (I also have Olfa original version same as "modelers knife" with yellow handle). Earlier this year I bought Tamiya professional knife set but it is almost the same as modelers knife... When I began to work my favorite was X-acto but olfa is using much better steel. :ro:

All the best!

Oh I've got about 8 knives and three razor saws. I never pay attention so I just grab the one that's handy and if it needs a new blade I put one in. Blades don't last too long around here! :fencing

I've got three with rubber handles that have a nub at the end so they don't roll off the bench and I usually use those the most.

I keep three handles on the bench, one with the knurled area tinted red, one blue and the last natural. I put the new blade in the red and move that one to the blue. The natural holds leftovers.

Don't mistake that for me being any semblance of organized, for sculpting I need an extremely sharp blade for detail work and just got tired of changing blades constantly because of dulling them on other stuff. It's just easier to leave the red alone and use the other two for most work.

And yes, the choice of red reflects the high chance of wounding.

I think I have 5 of the small X-Acto handles 2 or 3 of the medium size and 3 of the large handles. Blades allover the place. However I use Jewelry engravers as well and those are usually much sharper than a new X-Acto blade. Different shapes to shave that plastic and all polished razor sharp. Of course my other blades as a rule are that shar as well. Only time I replace a #11 blade is when I need that super pointy point. The rest of the time I grab my sharpening stones and put a new edge on a blade.

OK, I didn't want to show my collection as it seems it far exceeds everyone else's so far but this is something I do not have. Would you post a photograph of these jewelry engravers?

Regards,

Several, but I use them for work and went through several types of handles till I had my carpal tunnel surgery.
