HMS Nancy War of 1812 Canadian Schooner.

Nancy Schooner 1 (3).jpg20221113_214112.jpg
Working from my Nancy Reference, a guy can see how long all the masts, yards, gaffs and bowsprit are.
This little Lady carried a huge amount of sail with everything flying!
Thanks again for looking in!

Nancy's main mast & boom in their crudest state. Stepping off the measurements from the 25" scale or using the specified ones yield the same result. :yipee:
Humphey Bogart's Santana has been renting space in my head. :hmm:

Change of plan. The Nancy schooner wasn't built as a Royal Navy vessel. She was built in Detroit for a Great Lakes fur trading company.
She only became "HMS" after the beginning of the the 1812 War and a change of command to a regular Royal Navy officer.
Airbrushing the dark wood brown on Nancy caused a little overspray on the deck. A few swipes of airbrush thinner and the overspray became a fine wash for the deck planking details. Railings around her quarter deck and her tiller are additions to the model schooner this go-round.

Modeling occurred at an odd time this day. I awoke around 0100 and cheerily modeled away until 0430. Then, A NAP! :yipee:

Nancy got her cannon today. I found a decent boat ship's for her as well. Wood tan and brown for masts and bowsprit.
She's been attached to her credit card for additional fixing of masts, booms, yardarms and sails.
Thanks again for looking in!

Barrett's 1/700 privateer Antelope sloop on one of Teresa's blue bases made her debut in Monticello. I hope Stan Rogers was smiling down when Antelope received her gold award. :drunks: :drink

She had been sitting on the desk, behaving herself fairly well for a Canadian in Iowa with no Labbatt's or Hockey to watch.
Stan Rogers kept whispering from the hereafter.
I hadn't planned to rig Nancy's sails. Still, the grand little Canadian lady deserved to be ready for a fight. I hope to finish Nancy off and complete The Stan Rogers Canadian inspired 1/700 scale set.
Yes, she'll have the little girl figurehead on the bowsprit.
Thanks for lookin' in, Eh!

I seem to have an awful time with headsails. These look pretty scanty. Invisible thread is way too thick for scale and hard to work with.
Ratlines went on well and the Canadian flag decals I made for Nancy worked well. She doesn't have her figurehead yet.
She deserves better. I doubt I will start over.
Thanks for looking in!

Sometimes you just have to accept the scale. Rather have it slightly overscale than not represented at all I think.

Right. The Uschi line is fine and strong enough to hold the flag up, but I have my doubts about holding up the bulkier headsails. I'll consult the Board.

This is what happens when I lose (win?) an argument with myself. Nancy deserved better sails. It turns out the Uschi .005 rigging line is stronger than I expected. See here a proper 1812 Canadian Nancy schooner, complete with Nancy figurehead. (see the little white 1/2 figure on the bow?) This is the 4th vessel for the Stan Rogers inspired 1/700 Canadian Maritime History set from TLAR Models. Sail material, catheads and anchors are not included in the kit.

I started this set in 2021, during the pandemic. Stan's music brought me a lot of peace during those times of uncertainty. 1921 Bluenose and Nancy schooners, The Antelope sloop, Cape Island crab and lobster boats were the result. The 1/700 90-foot Windbreaker schooner was an off-shoot. Nancy has been very patient. She waited on my desk for almost 3 years, waiting to be finished.

1/700 1921 Bluenose will be a kit of her own. She will include modern boats to build Jimmy Buffett's "Cleopatra" from one of his books, if you chose to. That's a story for another day.

Box-art and finished instructions coming up! Pricing opinions will put before the Board members.
Antelope and Nancy are for advanced model ship maniacs ONLY!

Since the recent demise of Shapeways, I shall seek other ways to buy/make cannons for these little beauties. Other nautical articles as well.
Anyway, thanks again for looking in!
