Great WWII footage...

The past couple days I have been looking through the Steven Spielberg video and film archives and there is one film that really caught my eye, its Story RG-60.0664 Tape 308 tiled ''Destruction in Berlin'' the color footage of the ruins of Berlin was interesting but at about the four+ minute mark the footage changes to a bombed out building that has some factory fresh Fw 190A-8s inside! When I had seen the Fw 190s I nearly sprained my eyelids...this footage is new to me and while the film is a little dark the color is quite good. Sorry I don't have a link to this but its very easy to find, go to the home page and use the search engine.
There are a lot of other films in the archives that have a lot of color footage of German trucks and other softskins at the time of surrender in 1945. Some I have seen before but much is new to me.

There is not only footage from the ETO but also color films from the Pacific war, I looked at some color footage of a Japanese airfield that had just been captured and show some damaged airplanes to good effect.

Thanks for posting.

Here is the link:

Dark times indeed.

Did anybody that looked at the film that Bill provided the link to think the Fw 190s in the bombed out hangar had the late war brown and green colors on them? On my monitor it looks like those aircraft were painted in RLM 81 and RLM 82.
Also could somebody please get a screen shot of those Fw 190's and post them? I tried, and it no worky for me. :(

I can try again on the weekend but here is an initial.

Think your right, 81/82

Not sure about this one....too dark.

Okay looking closer and not sure about colour. Too tired to pull out the refs right now, sorry. Will try on weekend.

James,
Thanks for the screen grabs!

The aircraft inside the bombed out building look like they are painted in 81/82 but could also be 75/82, no doubt about the mottling though, it has a strong greenish hue that would suggest 82.

Your second screen grab of the Fw 190 parked outside on the grass field looks like it is in gray tones with no sign of green hues at all.

Here are the two screen grabs that James posted, I lightened both pictures a bit to better see what colors these planes were painted in.

First the Fw 190 parked outside on the grass field...

Even with the image lightened its difficult to be certain what colors it wears.

This is one of the Fw 190's inside the the bombed out building, here it would be safe to say RLM 82 was used on this aircraft, but the darker of the two uppersurface colors its still hard to say if its RLM 81 Brownviolet
or a gray color.

James,
The darker of the two colors on the uppersufaces is way too dark to be any known samples of RLM 75, it could be RLM 74 but since that color has never been known to be paired with RLM 82 before I believe the color is RLM 81 brownviolet, it could be just my monitor but I see a brownish tinge to the darker color which also makes me think 81 is a strong possibility. :idonno

Thanks for the screen shot.

Moon Puppy,
Trout...you want to see a trout? I will post some new pics of my Dora in its trout camouflage. :)
