Gluing a resin piece to basswood...

Jeeves

Well-known member
So I started playing around with this quonset hut piece and am using basswood to square everything up together...I have plain old Elmer's glue to get the first piece started but was wondering if there was something stronger I should be using?

Gorilla.

dont' click that if you don't like autostart videos...

Gorilla is strong enough to be sure- but it expands as it dries, doesn't it? Not sure I want the nightmare of trying to line everything up if that's still the case...

Clamp it, it wont go no where then. I'm using gorilla on some of that PE for the 8rad.

A little dab'll do ya... :coolio

Ah Bob- so no spackling then? :facepalm The bottle I had on the honey-do workbench was found to be solidified...but I had some of that gel-type super glue- so I'm trying that to see if it fits the bill...if not, I'll head for the ape ;)

Prop Duster- the Quonset hut is where the people who drive the props go ;)

I bow :notworthy to your superior intellect and knowledge :pilot

....mostly

Seriously the Quonset Hut is a cool building, so I am looking forward to your progress.

[besides I need a place to have my tea and crumpets served] :v

Mike , try Home Depot etc. and get some Locktite Powergrab caulk tube stuff .
The wood is porous , no problem there just rough sandpaper to scuff up the resin bits .

Gorilla makes an "Impact" superglue- I get it at Home Depot. No expansion, works great in all aspects of modeling!

Thanks guys!

The Loctite Gel seems to have worked swimmingly...now to make the last two sections behave and mold to the right shape ;)

I like this, helpful and you even provided a source, then I remembered that Canadian Home Depots don't carry anything useful ever.

I recent asked an associate where I could find their Pockethole Jigs - for a modelling project to be unveiled later - and he said 'we wouldn't have that, we're not cabinet makers. *insert facepalm*

No love for Gator Glue? Makes me sad.

In all seriousness, I keep Gorilla Super Glue and Loctite's Professional Super Glue on the bench for stubborn parts.

No worries Kenny...still use the Gator glue religiously on PE and clear parts ;). Just wanted something that gripped quickly...

Good thing it's also not permanent as I had to go back and detach everything as I forgot to measure the width of the resin in my measurements and was off by almost 4mm....doh!!!!!
