The July "model for the month" for the club, is titled "EGG", a fun competition. Egg plane, egg car, etc. I've seen some really cool looking egg planes.
I do ships though, and came up with an egg aircraft carrier for my entry. Started on Easter with a plastic egg to be used for the hull. The plastic was polyethlelene ??, the stuff kids plastic, indestructible fire trucks are made of, and I couldn't get any glue to work on it. Finally found one at walgreens that felt ok. Getting it home and opening it, I found it was metal, I thought aluminum, with two sweetarts in it. Turns out, when I tried grinding a flat spot on it for the bottom, It was really steel, like old beer cans.
Ground the bottom flat to waterline it, the top flat for the flight deck, used plastic card and epoxy to skin the bottom and make the flight deck. Here, she's glued up and puttied with Perfect putty, drying, to be sanded out. Next, the island.
