Colossus-Building the Bismarck-Trumpeter 1/200th

Wow!

The Photo-etch you are using on that ship is never ending! I think the most photo-etch I've seen used on a kit!

I believe this will be your best build yet Laurence and I'm anxious to see it completed!

Are you getting settled in your new home? I'll drop you an email today!

Looks great!

Never ending is the best way of putting it - the kit itself has over 1,700 pieces, some of which are PE - on top of that, I have the aftermarket MK1, which is mostly PE, wooden deck, turned barrels all of it. I haven't done a count yet, but I will, just curious to see how many PE parts are involved.

Thanks for the vote of confidence, I will do my best, that's all I can promise. The end result? Will see when it's done.

Nope, despite our best efforts, our place is not what we had hoped it would be. I'll tell you all about it in an email.

Thank you :notworthy :notworthy :notworthy

I'm glad to see this moving forward. I'm also glad it's you and not me; that amount of photo-etch would drive me to insanity!

Bring it on Lawrence, I am looking forward to future updates.

Thanks Mark,

Take a look at this one, showing almost all the PE for one of the 11 metres launch (there are four of them).

This is not even the most challenging one either :D :D :D

The Launch alone would be an awesome model. :popcorn

As soon as I will finish the boats, I will post photos here.

I have primed a few, they have to be done hull separate from deck & above.

As soon as the primer is dry, I will start painting everything that looks mahogany like colors - obviously wood on the original things.

Let's see how it all works out - I am looking at those cables / ties / whatever that are used to tie the boats down and I am already trying to find a solution for that - scratch stuff ...obviously.

If the launches look that good, I can't even imagine what the Bismarck will look like!

We both dislike photo-etch, but all that P.E. will be what makes that ship a masterpiece!

Thanks Bob - I think everyone agrees that PE adds a level of detail one could never acquire otherwise. I will take some side-by-side photos pieces from the kit vs. PE. The difference is huge.

As for the Bismarck being a masterpiece, yes, it was one, that's for sure :D. If you mean my rendition of the said ship, well, we shall wait and see. You and everyone else here on MA be the judges when it's done, deal?

:drinks :drinks :drinks

Until then, some images of the ship.

Stern view

Doing the water will be no less challenging, but that is not about to happen soon.

Now for some more PE fun ...stuff ....

h2b9ea28.JPG

This is a photo showing left to right - most of the deck primed and painted pink (Vallejo), ready for oils - PE but only a few pieces - an almost finished deck, painted with burnt sienna and the piece of plastic from the kit - the difference is obvious.

Two of the hangars, painted in a different shade of grey than other pieces of superstructure, for a bit of variety. They will look different after weathering. Hangar doors will be most weathered, as they were used constantly.

And a different angle with a knife to give the viewer an idea about the size of these things.

I am aiming at finishing the boats' hulls then adding the decks, then putting the boats in place. I have to be carefully planning ahead, since there is no room for me to work on the model at our current place. The biggest problem is the height of things, because right now the hull is in the box and it fits nicely, but, if I add superstructure elements, I won't be able to close it. :vmad

Thanks for watching.
