Anyone near Banner Elk, NC?

Just finalized summer vacation plans...my wife's coworker gives us one week from her timeshare where we can go pretty much anywhere...we'll be staying at a place on Sugar Mt...and I was scoping out model shop opportunities...it does appear to be a pretty remote place, but we are planning on some day trips...

Define "Near"

Sugar Mt. is maybe a 3 hour drive for me. You're actually closer to Mike and Chris, think they are only 2 hours away. Hobby shops close by, better bring something! :rotf

Close would not be a word I'd use. Closest thing I find is a Michaels in Boone.

Think you better put your Arts & Craft hat on Mike.

If you head south let me know, might be able to do a meet and eat somewhere. (y)

LOL....ok so hobby shops visits are out ;)

As we iron out the day trips, I'll let you know Bob ;)

There's a decent shop in Hendersonville, but NC is two weeks from everywhere when it comes to hobby shops. Banner Elk is not far from my in laws.

That one in Hendersonville, good if you're passing but I wouldn't make it a destination. Seems strong on the rail road side. Now if you wanna make a Hroad trip...there's the hobby town down in Augusta but that would be nearly 5 hours away for you Mike.

LOL...I'm not so desperate to find one to go that far ;). Guess I'll have to just stick with the pool and hot tub ;)

Are you in Asheville Bob? We are in the middle of our week here...we've done Grandfather Mt., and Emerald Mt. Gem mine in New Switzerland today....did Gettysburg and Skyline Drive on the way down and will do Monticello on the way up Sat. Met a nice man at our resort who is from Asheville...

Hey Mike, I'm about 2 hours from Asheville. Sounds like a great trip so far! You guys have got to go by Biltmore House. How long y'all going to be in the area, I'll send you PM with my number.

Asheville is a great place! My wife & I like to go for our anniversary (which was yesterday) but didnt have the funds this year, otherwise we would have been up there. The downtown area is a nice place to just walk, there are a lot of art galleries and other interesting places to look at.

And there's a very cool McDonalds in Biltmore Village. Its the only McD's I've ever seen w/ tin ceilings and a grand piano in the dining room.

Hey guys...

After the two 6+ hour drive days we had getting down here, its been hard to convince the kids to go anywhere this week too far away. They were uneasy going to the gem mine yesterday but had a great time.

The girls are doing a horseback ride today...not sure whats going on tomorrow or Friday but I'll talk with the wife. We leave Sat morning

These posts are worthless without PICTURES :vmad :rotf

Sounds like you and the family are having a great time Enjoy it!! (y)
