Another Junk

Thanks Guys , I appreciate your interest . I must agree, it does bear a strong resemblance to a flying tool shed .

Painting this thing has been challenging . The corrugated metal really plays tricks with the lights as you airbrush it out. Hard to tell if the paint is wet or if it's just another reflection.

So far, the decals heave been the best part of the kit.

There's a lot of conflicting info out there as to the color and width of the band . As far as that goes, the instructions are conflicting as well ( surprised ? ).

I finally opted with white since it seems more likely for an early paint job :idonno Looking great Chris

After all the nice things I said about the decals, something has still run amuck

Three out of six German crosses have decided to start bulging out of the recesses although they were in there properly when installed :facepalm

I have tried microset, microsol and solvaset to make them lay back down to no avail.

So, I removed the offending parts of this lower one

Masked it off and reshot it .

Will try a replacement tomorrow. Cheers, Christian B)

Hmmm, that's perplexing. Guess you have more crosses? I know you'll pull this one through. (y)

:drinks

If you can find it Mr Mark Softener is very good. I used it on my J-1 and a que tip rolled from center out both ways to ensure the decals were seated. Hope the next decals works better for you Chris.

Thanks James I'll keep that in mind. The news have just got worse since I can't find a replacement decal.

Apparently a non standard size since I have smaller and larger . It's going to be tough to mask this one.

Cheers, Christian B)

Thanks Bob, Dave and Mike . I thought I had a decal but after measuring it turns out to be a different size .

I think I'll repair the top ones first . The lower one will be a bugger to mask off.

Cheers, Christian B)

I have some Mr Mark Softer (yes, that's how it's spelled) if you want to try some.

What about a stencil and very light mist coats from straight on?

1. Just remembered that I have some Mr.mark softer ( unused ) so I have been using it on the top . Seems to be doing more than the other products so far .

2. The ( homemade ) stencil is what I had in mind but there's so many different line needed for the bottom cross . Not looking forward to it at all . Besides, it's in close proximity to the letter decals :frantic

Thanks for waking me up James ! I think the decal makers have changed something in their process that the older softeners are no longer working with.

Cheers, Christian B)

Gee, Chris. That seems all to familiar. Like a certain P-40.

I know Paul . I was thinking of that :S Something must have changed with the decal makers but at first impression, I think Mr.Mark softer might be the thing :good: Ykes Starting to think it might be a ploy to make us buy more products :blink

Interesting choice of words Chris. Even though they are not widely known I just counted the production to be around 1974 in one form or another .
Besides the numbers , they were used from Spain till post war . Seems it would be more widely know :idonno
Alas, it did not shoot down other birds or blew up entire towns.
They did however serve to train many pilots and crew members .

The flying shed may not be appropriate . It may become the flying outhouse :rotf . Hard to imagine this bird for a VIP. hack :facepalm

Thanks for coming by. Cheers, Christian B)
