All Righty ... What's on the bench today?

I will be working at the US Navy Finance Center, Cleveland as a technician. I will be wiping out the credit cars, and have a small list of things I want...

And as a celebration I have purchased a couple of kits, new paint (that 6 year old tin of RAF interior green was shot) and am looking forward to time at the bench

If I forgot to post it before: Congrats on the new job Barney! I envy you having steady work for steady pay!

Nice Ed, glad to see that together. It does look like you have a few seams to deal with. I knwo you got this. Looking forward to seeing more.

Here's a short update from me. I haven't had the chance to get too much time on the bench so I focused on only a few builds.

First off, I made some more progress on my USS New York. I got the whole superstructure assembled now. She's ready for fiddly bits:

WIP_USS_New_York_VI.jpg

I left these open to see if there's anything I can put in them, but it doesn't look like the kit included anything. Unless I can see what should be here that I might be able to add; I'll be closing these openings with the P/E provided:

Now lets do some dry-fitting to see how this ship is gonna look:

WIP_USS_New_York_VIII.jpg

This is going to be a great looking ship to add to my collection!

Moving on, I decided it was time to focus on getting more done on my 1/72 scale Space Shuttle with Boosters. After all, it's been sitting on my workbench idly since February....

Back then, I'd only done the booster rockets themselves. The main tank had already been done by the previous owner who sold it to me. So, I pulled this out and sanded down the seams that the boosters had; filled a few gaps with Mr. Surfacer 500 and set them aside to dry. Next, I started on the cockpit of the shuttle itself:

WIP_Space_Shuttle_II.jpg

Not too much detail inside, but once it's painted up; it looked pretty good if I do say so myself:

WIP_Space_Shuttle_III.jpg

Next I completed the interior part of the cargo bay. I didn't worry too much about the appearance of this as the shuttle bay doors will be closed. I doubt they opened them once this beastie was attached to the boosters:

I couldn't find my regular alligator clips; so I pulled these off the block they came with.

After that, I figured I'd get a few more sub-assemblies done, like the wings:

...and the tail:

WIP_Space_Shuttle_VII.jpg

Next I assembled the main fuselage of this beastie. She's a big one all right:

WIP_Space_Shuttle_VIII.jpg

The wings were only dry-fit to see how big this was going to be.

After that, I set it all aside to dry, while I went back to finish the bottom of the booster rockets. I had two parts to add to the bottoms of these and one booster was somehow more oval than the other. It took a lot of help to get this to glue properly:

WIP_Space_Shuttle_X.jpg

Here you can see it next to the other completed booster tail:

WIP_Space_Shuttle_XI.jpg

Finally, they both were completed once the glue had dried:

Now back to the Shuttle itself. I installed the cockpit and some windows inside the fuselage. Looks pretty good in there. I hope once the glass goes in some of this can still be seen:

For added stability, I installed the back engine plate to the end of this. I left off the nacelles so I could paint this black first before installing them:

Now let's have a little more Fun with Dryfitting:

WIP_Space_Shuttle_XIII.jpg

Oh yeah, she's a big one all right....

After this, I had a little time left to start a model that a friend gave me after winning it at the IPMS Nationals in Columbus. This is my Trumpeter 1/72 scale Madge seaplane. I started out adding about thirty-five pieces to the forward part of the main flight deck; including the lower nose deck:

Yeah, I had all that to add and I haven't even put in the pilot and crew seats yet!

That's about when I ran out of time. So, thanks all for looking in, comments are welcome.

EDITED: For some reason, despite previewing correctly; 95% of my post never posted! Hopefully it's complete now.

Thanks Ed. Glad you got it sealed. Now that the post edited correctly this time, you can see the rest of my progress.

:rotf :rotf I noticed that!! :yipee The Space shuttle is purty huge! Coming along nicely (y) Looking at the Madge, Ya peaked my interest :hmmm looks like some nice details. Which kit is it?

Ed, the Madge is the Trumpeter kit. My friend won it at the 2015 Nationals in Columbus and gave it to me.

Thanks Dave, you slipped while I was responding to Ed. I appreciate it very much.

Not much right now. Well, we spent two of he last three days on the road for Ian's doctors appointments. Wednesday we were in Baton Rouge for a neurosurgery/hydrocephalus shunt checkup. Everything looks great and he still has plenty of tubing into the abdomen for the next several years. We were concerned about that with Ian's growth spurt.

Friday we were in New Orleans for his neurology checkup. Again, everything looks great and we are going to slowly start reducing some of his seizure meds over the next four months, he is on 5 of them. The last time we tried to discontinue a medicine, we ended up only being able to decrease the med which brought about Ian's great awakening. We are hoping to continue clearing the medicine fog.

Trying to get a new speaker in this one ...

I know, I've been pushing it back to get more room, but I've figured if you fix it, then it can go to it's rightful owner, and won't be on thr bench, so you should have seen it before I did the Mark thing.

I started something else but

:idonno

I've been having trouble one, getting time at the bench lately. Two, the worst part once I'm there I just do a little here and a little there not really getting any progress done. I have to admit I'm great at buying kits and sticking a couple parts together. :eek:hyeah

We or I suffer from the same trouble, seems my main problem was all the people who needed my money, because I owed them for a bit. But the other thing that has helped Me is getting those plastic snap together project boxes from the Dollar General store. I keep all my parts together when I'm working on one kit then back in the box lid on it, no fuss no muss. The one that stacks is great, because you can put the kit your working with on top, then move it down and open the next one.

Now as for the Top Secret what is it ??? :hmmm :idonno :rotf

Today has been a lazy day here at the flop house so, I got some time in on the bench. Planned to get some painting done but, no joy. Did manage to get some decals on the SNJ Texan & masked off the cowlings for the F7F...
I'll add pics to this post in a bit....
