All Righty ... What's on the bench today?

After taking a break from my Tomcat for a few days and reading all of these encouraging words to fix it, I decided to go ahead and tough it out.

I'm using a mix of bondo and gel super glue to get back to "flying status".

Thanks guys!

There have been a few Tomcats of VF-142 or 143 that had lost the nose during flight... Know of a Phantom off Ranger in 1966 that had the nose shot off by flak & made it back to the carrier...

I'm glad your over the Carpet Monster trouble ...... :eek:ldguy

On my Bench is this little walker Bulldog .....

I may get some paint on it tonight ..... Time has been hard to find lately .... But the 'ol truck has new back shocks ..... :eek:ldguy

Last nite I masked off Curly's head and put a layer of medium blue Floquil on the torso/jumpsuit. At this point I am holding out on the photos until he is done. The head and face turned out MUCH better than I had hoped! :woohoo: :frantic

After cleaning the brush out from the Floquil, I then sprayed some uber thinned Vallejo browns on the forearms and calf parts to start putting some shading and shadows on them,

At this point my Badger Krome was starting to act a little finicky so it was time for a good cleaning. After doing my usual breakdown and clean I noticed that there was still some crud getting on the needle from the gasket area in front of the trigger. I preceded to take one of my pipe cleaners and started cleaning it out from the back end. NASTY!!! It had been leaking back through the rear seal for a while. :facepalm

After cleaning a fair amount of junk out of the rear part I finally took a light and gazed down the rear end to see what was going on in there. No proctologist jokes please. :stinker What I found was a brass plug with a hole down the center and a screw slot across it. I grabbed my Wiha screwdriver that fit precisely into the slot and carefully started unscrewing the part. It was definitely gummed up and required some back and forth movement to break the gummy junk down and ease it out.

This is the part that Badger wants you to send in the airbrush to have it replaced. After a look I can understand why hey insist on that. If it is installed improperly (too tight) it crushes the seal and would have to be replaced. With knowledge and finesse however it is possible to snug the seal back down to the needle properly. Only if you know what you are doing. :hmmm

From now on this will be an occasional service done on my airbrush. There is much more to it than just taking the part out and putting it back though.

:hmmm

If someone has a Badger Krome and will take a good picture of the inside of the cup and the bottom area, I will put together a new Tool Time post on the Badger Krome airbrush with some modifications and maintenance info.

I know how it feels to be trying to find time. I've been having a tough time myself. Still, I'm hoping to get more done soon. Nice work on that Bulldog. I'm still waiting for one in 1/72 scale.

Eagle, that is good info on that Badger. I'm wondering if the same thing applies to the Badger 105. So far though, I've not had any problems with mine so I'm still using it fairly regularly. Thanks for the tip, I'm hoping to find that Tool Time thread soon.

Duke I think all the Renegade type airbrushes are similar. I did a heavy modification to the bottom area of the paint cup on my Krome and need to get a "before" pic to do a good teaching tutorial on it.

I originally did the modification on my old LG100 way back when. The paint would puddle up around the hole instead of flowing down so it could spray out. I did the changes back when until the paint would fully flow down and it also made it much easier to clean.

The cup on the Krome had some big issues and took some work to get it to a similar state as the old one. The process is similar to blueprinting and porting the heads on a car only much smaller.

Just need a "before" pic of a Badger Krome to show the difference.

I CORNcur about trying to find time! Every other week my niece comes & stays for a week so she can go to work during the day & has me watch my grandnephew for her. This is s'poseta be the off week but, she's been here a couple days now & since she don't drive, I'm having ta run her around getting things set up for her brother's weeding on Sat.! Just found out I got family coming in from outta town tomorrow & will be here for the weekend so... Very little is getting done on the bench right now :bang head

Ed, enjoy the family time together; at least with those family that are enjoyable! :woohoo: :tomato

I'm going to have a lot of time coming up soon so hopefully I'll be able to make significant progress on some more of my models, as well as start a few more. I'm really wanting to reinforce my Japanese Army with some more modern equipment.

Airbrushed a friend's RC fish feeding boat in camo colors, loosly based on World War 2 SS Oak Leaf camo.
Well some parts are still masked with tape in this pic.

Thanks Mark. :good: I did manage to mask off & start adding Orange to the lower wing tips on the F4D-1

Actually nothing has been on my bench for the past few days. Completely forgot that Sarah's sister and three kids were going to be here :bang head. They leave today. So hopefully I can get craning on the P-35 kits tomorrow. All it needs now is paint and decals.

I had another day to get to the bench so here's another small update to post. It may be small, but I sure did a lot of work to get this far! This is because I was spending a lot of time finishing off the Vickers Valiant since it was so close to being done. Just for fun, here's the bomb loadout I did:

WIP_Valiant_XXV.JPG

Meanwhile, as I waited for parts to dry on the Valiant, I went back to working on one of the two Japanese Type 60 Self Propelled Recoilless Gun vehicles. I had already added the wheels to one of the hull sides. I finished the other side and put the hull together. This thing is small!

As I went on, this thing has an engine included:

Here is the radiator installed afterward:

There's even a crew interior:

I'll get some of that painted later and see what is visible from the hatches and such. They also include clear parts for the vision blocks and such just like on 1/35th scale kits. This little guy is gonna be a blast to do!

After all that, I went back and added the landing gear, gear doors, antenna and sundry parts to the Valiant to finish it off. You can see the finished model in the Wesendorf Field Forum. Meanwhile, comments are welcome here, thanks for looking in.

Where did you get the really big knife from?? Think it would be hard to use, but would be cool to get one.

Very cool Mark-- love the interior on that one-- I imagine you don't get a whole lot of chances to work on interiors that small-- looks like you're having a blast though!

What happened to this Thread? Where did all the other posts go between April 24, 2011 and now? :skipper

This is weird.... :blink :idonno
