Its interesting you should mention that Bob, but I've already started kinda of throwing around the idea of maybe moving to South Carolina, the area around Spartanburg to be exact. I've already done a fair bit of searching for CAD jobs in that area and have turned up quite a few.

I've got some friends in that area already, plus I know that cost of living is a bit lower, gas prices are lower, income taxes are lower, etc, than what I pay in NC, so I can see several possible benefits of living down there.

Thanks guys. I've actually got an interview this afternoon. One of the places I stopped at on Friday called me yesterday morning while I was driving down to one of the staffing agencies I had applied with.

The company is a small fabrication shop that is heavily tied into Nascar. They build all kinds of racing related products, including the massive pit boxes used by the top tier Sprint Cup teams.

Since it was a cold stop, I dont have any idea what, if anything, they might be looking for, so I'm not sure what to expect, but I'm very hopeful.

Adam good luck on the job interview; I do hope you get what you need. You're in my prayers.

Just returned from Florida a few days ago and it has taken me this long to get caught up on all my pile of E-mails and Forums so far. I even got a little model building done over the weekend and hope to get some done today. Pics forthcoming.

Oh, I did get some modeling done in Florida; I was helping my nephew complete an F-18 and my 6-year-old niece wanted to build a model. So, we went out shopping and got her a plane and a car and for fun, I picked out a snap-tite Pirate Ship. After helping her with building them, I got to start my ship.

I got pics of all that, hopefully I'll be able to post them soon.

Just got back home from visiting the inlaws in Portland :bang head :bang head :bang head :bang head All I can say is so glad to be home. Now I'm trying to find a room to rent for the field season. Will be working back in Burns again. Of course we just moved from there a few months back :rotf Had something all lined up but it fell through. I just have to find a place that will allow me to bring along some model building stuff so I don't go crazy in the evenings. :geek

Well, positive outcome from the interview. Went in, had what I felt was a good interview, and then was offered a 2 week try out, so that we could gauge each other, let me get a feel for the work they do, and so one.

Pays a bit lower per hour than I was making, but they pay for the full 45hrs a week I'll be there, which includes being paid for the 1 hr lunch. On top of being paid for that time, they also provide lunch, which I thought was really cool. No idea what they do for lunch, but its provided.

I can wear jeans & t-shirts to work in, the company will reimburse the cost of black jeans, and they provide t-shirts w/ the company logo on it.

I'm very confidant I'll stick around after 2 weeks, but just gotta wait for the final decision. Biggest thing is the 2 weeks doesnt start until May 27th, since their current CAD guy is leaving, so I'm guess he probably gave notice yesterday, and I cant start until after he's gone, which is both good & bad, but I'm not worried about it.

In the mean time I'm going to continue looking for jobs, to see if maybe something else better might come along.

Now I just need to figure out what this does to my unemployment. I really need the money I'll get over the next 2 weeks so I have to find out about that ASAP.

Congrats on the offer Adam. I'm not sure how the unemployment system works where you are but I know here in Oregon it is a huge pain. Here the first week you claim is called a "waiting" week. So you don't get anything. But you can claim until the day you go back to work as well. I know for me since I am going back to work on June 2nd that I am still able to claim until that time. But I also have to continue to prove that I am looking for work. Which is a bit annoying since I would basically be wasting employers time when they look at my applications.

All Righty ... What are you doing today ?

Yea, I figured as long as I show I'm still looking for work, that I can claim up till I go back, but I think my biggest question is if the try out doesnt work and they decide to not keep me, is what that will do for my unemployment. My guess is it would probably mean I'd have to start the process over and whether I'd actually qualify for unemployment again, but I really dont know.

At this point I'm hoping it'll be a good fit for everyone, and I wont have to worry about it, and it would mean I met my goal of finding a job within 2 weeks of being laid off.

All Righty ... What are you doing today ?

Here the first month is a cooling off period. Too see if your serious about being unemployed?? Then the payments start at the end of the second month. If you get any money like severance or whatever they subtract that from the payments. No fun being unemployed here.

Just spent the last two hours working on the car :bang head Dang clutch rod fell off the pedal. Two hours of work for a 35 cent washer and bushing thingy. At least it is all better now. Now it's time for some bench time :geek

All Righty ... What are you doing today ?

Okay, since I didn't know where else to post this, here are the pics of me corru... I mean building with the Niece and Nephews. :D

I'm back from my trip down to Florida again. I had a great time watching my older sister graduate from college, she had been working so long to get her Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education. For an early Mother's day, I spent a few days working; crossing off the list of repairs that my mother's house needed. In between that time, I spent it with my nephew Patrick helping him complete a model F-18 Blue Angel he'd been building for his girlfriend.

While showing him some new techniques, my six-year-old niece Eleana (pronounced "Ell-lay-na) came in and wanted to help build Patrick's plane. Patrick let her help, and she enjoyed it so much that she wanted her own plane to build. So that night, we went out to a local craft shop (there are no hobby shops in his town) and picked up a Snap-Tite 57 Chevy car for her, as well as a Snap-Tite F-14 Tomcat. I also picked up a Snap-Tite Fire Engine for her twin brother Marcus. While I was buying all these models (and some extra tools for Patrick), I figured I deserved to get something for myself. They had a Revell Snap-Tite Black Diamond Pirate Ship that I picked up to build for myself once I finished the Fire Truck for Marcus.

So, the next morning, we all spread some newspapers on the dining room table and started to work on our respective projects.

Eleana wanted a purple car, so I had gotten a purple spray paint and spray painted her car the night before. She spent the rest of the day building it with me occasionally helping her. Patrick continued to work on his F-18 and I built Marcus' truck.

Here we are all together around the table:

Marcus is autistic so he wasn't able to build the truck for himself, so I did it. He did put his own stickers on it though:

Here's Patrick working intently on his model:

I got a few shots of Eleana building her car; she wanted her picture taken a lot, the little ham!

Here she is working on the chassis:

Eleana_Car_I.jpg

Then she was snapping in the headlights later:

Eleana_Car_II.jpg

Now for her "glamour' pose with her new car!

Eleana_Car_III.jpg

Later she put her own stickers on her car, and then she wanted to paint a white heart on the hood. So I folded a Post-it note in half, cut out the shape of a heart and taped it down as best I could to the hood. Here she is painting the heart on her car:

Eleana_Car_IV.jpg

Later on, she assembled her F-14 Tomcat (I helped a little with the wings) and then she painted it all white all over before applying the stickers to it. Here is the proud new owner of a new Tomcat:

Eleana_Plane_I.jpg

While all this was going on, I painted up and then assembled most of my Pirate Ship here:

If you look closely, you'll see where I dry-brushed a little gold on the cannons to give them a bit more of a 'bronzed' look. I haven't snapped the masts in place yet because I want to put the sails on first:

After that, I'll snap them down and fasten everything together. Then for fun, I might just rig it!

That was one of the most enjoyable parts of my recent vacation. I may have more pics from then to post later, I'll have to look. I hope you enjoyed seeing this as much as I did experiencing it.

Thanks for looking in.

That's great stuff Mark, but who's that big bald kid? :rotf

Mark you're a great ambassador of the modeling hobby, nice way to pass the torch. (y)

With the speed you build, kids get the almost instantaneous gratification they crave! Fantastic to see a younger generation interested in the hobby and if Patrick's girlfriend appreciates his effort, he better keep her in mind as she will be a keeper (too young now).

All Righty ... What are you doing today ?

Well, I weighed 194.6 at the gym today- back in February I was at 212 or so. The doc gave me the choice of either losing weight and adjusting my diet or going on cholesterol and hypertension pills for the duration. I'm proud to say my chol is down dramatically, so I'm good there! Blood pressure was iffy, so I've given up salt and we'll check again in a few weeks. High BP runs all through my family, so if it's still high it ain't my danged fault! ;)

I'd offer a toast, but those are reserved for weekends from here on out! :pp
