All Righty ... What's on the bench today?

All Righty ... What are you doing today ?

Good news and bad news here.

Found the former mouse and source of the death stink. The searched required major overhaul and cleaning of the garage. I concentrated on the non modeling areas, all the stacks of wood you're not suppose to throw out, gardening tools, broke washing machine...all cleaned out and hauled off. Still working on cleaning up, havne' touched the bench but I did throw out a bunch of old model boxes and near empty sprues. All those parts...I keep saying I need to keep them but I never do anything with them.

The bad news, former mouse had taken refuge in Cindy's Christmas storage...Oh the horror! She didn't think twice about telling me to trash it..thankfully.

No bench time for bonzo this week but a nice clean shop may be the motivation I need. :zen

Getting ready to do the first grilling of the season. First up for this year, pork chops.

Oh, and its a clouding, windy, rainy, blustery day. I am dedicated to my craft and my daughter since she got all bent out of shape when I said I was just going to cook them in the oven instead.

Rough day in Casa Millisor... friend was in the ER Monday and was diagnosed with stage 4 Ovarian cancer... She was on the table Thursday for 9.5 hours and they think they got 90% of it... everyone is keeping Dawn in our prayers...

Today was Barney Sunday @ Christ Church, I sang everything... plus did the Gospel reading.... with attendance of 200 every Sunday, someone else could have helped out...

Cleaned Carol's garage, raked the back yard... SHE picked up dog poop... I have my priorities straight!

Wednesday we are headed to Richmond. Anybody know of a good hobby shop in Richmond? :snoopy

We got back from a three-day trip to Santa Barbara. It was great- and walked walked our socks off! I hadn't ridden a bike in years, and Marc hadn't been on one in 25! We did a decent ride without killing ourselves, which was a plus. Great food and drink, a quiet little inn- a great 25th anniversary getaway!

Haha, yea, this is definitely a build that's taking a lot of time, but I'm pretty sure its not the longest a build has taken me to complete. I have an NHRA Funny Car I built a few years ago that I'm pretty sure took over 10 years from start to finish.

This build has suffered several setbacks in the build itself, I had to strip the fairings at least 3 or 4 times b/c each time I'd paint it, the paint would get screwed up. I kept trying to paint it w/ Tamiya rattle can lacquer paint, and had all kinds of problems. Too heavy, runs, fish eyes, horrible orange peal, etc, so b/c of that it got pushed to the back burner and forgotten about.

And then I've moved 3 times since I started it too, so that causes all its own issues as well.

Thankfully it looks like its finally going to be finished. Managed to get the fairings painted last night, and a quick inspection this morning showed that they look pretty good. I'll let them dry for a couple of days, then polish the paint some, and then clear it, and then polish out the clear. So hopefully it'll be done in the next week or so.

Started the day off great. Dropped Sarah off at work. Then almost had an accident when I was in a roundabout and some lady in a Mercedes SUV decided to zoom into the roundabout without stopping to yield. Had to slam on my brakes and go up onto the sidewalk to miss her. Honked at her and she just glanced at me and kept going. All this time she was texting on her damn phone :bang head :bang head I swear people in this town can't drive. It's like the roundabouts here confuse them. But no damage was done to my car so whatever. Now it's time to relax with some modeling while I wait to go back to work.

Chuck, Happy Anniversary to you and Marc. Mine is coming up next year in 2015.

Barney, prayers going up for Dawn. Keep the faith man. Well done on Barney Day; I'd love to do half of that at my church if I could.

Adam, glad to see things coming along. I am hoping to finally finish a few of mine too. It's gonna take a bit of time though.

I went to Hobby Day weekend this weekend and managed to start a few models and work on several others;
mostly sanding and filling and sanding and filling ad nauseum. I did bring a Panzer IV up to the paint stage and started a new armor model that was a fairly quick and easy build. The next day, more of the same until I slashed a deep cut through the tip of my left index finger. It wouldn't stop bleeding so I had someone take me to St. Jude's emergency room. There they glued me back together using medical grade CA glue. They decided to use that instead of stitches since it was such a clean cut. It was a brand new blade after all. So now I have a bandage across my index finger and occasional sharp pain whenever I bang the tip against anything. I am hoping to get some airbrushing done si9nce that won't require the use of my left index finger.

Stay tuned, pics forthcoming in a few more days.

Shortly after this post was made, IT launched a full scale lockdown when they realized Ernie was looking at photos of naked plastic.

Wow, what a helluva week I've had so far! Note: This is NOT for the squeamish! If injuries give you the willies, pass this post by!

I get back in from Florida and have to clean up a big oil spill my wife left for me. A couple days later at Hobby Day, I'm trying to widen a slot in a fast-build Hobby Boss F-86 and I somehow managed to slash my finger open with a brand new Exacto blade. I didn't even think that I was exerting enough pressure for that, much less that my finger was close enough to be slashed! Anyway, after failing to get it to stop bleeding, I got a ride to St. Jude's emergency room. There they glued me shut with some medical-grade CA glue. (Note: the standard CA glue we use for model building is toxic to the skin and will make a wound like this worse. I'm glad I didn't use any of that on this finger) So here I am unable to use this finger for awhile; you can see why here. This is what it looked like a couple days after when I was changing the bandage:
SlicenDice.jpg

You can see how this went, at it's deepest this went at least 1/3rd of an inch into my finger. This has kept me from doing any more building so far; I do hope to get some more painting done.

Moving along to yesterday; we had a transformer blow, knocking out our power at 5:20 in the morning. This resulted in an 18-hour power outage that was caused as two other older transformers blew when the first was installed, causing those next two to be replaced as well. We finally got our power back at 11: 26 in the evening that evening. So much for getting anything done.

Well, I have a followup appointment for my finger tomorrow to see if it's healing nicely enough and then maybe later I'll be able to get some more work done on some of the painting that I need to do.

Stay tuned guys, I'm hoping things settle down a bit more for the rest of the week.

Sending you some :zen :zen :zen Duke. Hope everything gets better soon. You know the modeling gos due demand a blood sacrifice from time to time though :rotf

Mark, what grit sandpaper is that going to require to smooth if out :tomato

Sorry but been there , done done accept that the flight surgeon stitched mine up in the middle of the night :(

On the plus side, sharp blades make nice cuts and heal up more quickly :) Also makes for a prettier scar.

Gert well soon :good:
