2023 PLASTIC SURGEON MEETING POSTS

Hear Ye, Hear Ye! The final Plastic Surgeon post of 2023 is about to appear!

Members and Models!

Francisco Melendez brings his hard-fought Trumpeter 1/48 C-47A Skytrain. I offered to sell him a 1/48 Monogram Gooney kit, but he could not be swayed. (See how the fuselage bulges inaccurately past the wing join? How the trailing edges of the wings angle differently? Sorry Frank. I DID try to save you!) Some of the decal markings were reproduced on a Cri-cut machine! Clever Francisco!
An expensive, complex airplane model. The consensus is that the opening in the cockpit roof is a hatch and not a clear winder. Trumpeter molds this part in clear plastic. Them Chi-Coms do love to torment us. Sometimes we let them.

I passed my 1/700 Gaga 3d RV Calypso around with a warning! "Do not buy Chinese's garbage!" Loren Pine offered what he had leaned about the flaws of this kit and enjoyed my discomfiture.

Speaking of Loren, He had been shopping again, in his expert model purchasing way! A Takom 1/16 M-10, and a few other kits arrived from Andy's and Hannant's. I didn't take too many pictures because I believe club meetings should be about building kits rather than buying them. I cain't hardly wait to see what Mr. Pine will put together next!

Webb Groos came to this meeting. He was escorted by his son, Barry. Webb is mending, but slowly. I wonder if Barry will return. Not everyone appreciates our Club jocularity.

Ronnie Schultz has resurrected a Wild Horse gasser! AMT's 1/24 '69 Mach 1, modified! I wonder if Archer's still has any tattoo decals left. I could be fitting. No? That's some wild model-making right there! Son!

Ray brought a Hasegawa 1/48 scale Nakajima A6M2-N Rufe. He's clearing space for his big Tomcat build for his son in AZ. The Rufe is a tidy model indeed!

Grandson Colton "Mr. A-B-C" is modifying the excellent Revell 1/25 '85 Olds 442/FE3-X show car kit into a stock car. :bat
I wonder about that boy. "He's just having fun" is what Grampa Ray always says.

President Nate Stevens is going forward on his 1/72 airplanes. Airfix Lancaster, Matchbox Sabre and Hobbyboss F-86F Sabre.
Time was, the Matchbox kit was the only one of the early F86-A. Nathan says these are both F model Sabres. Oddly, a match for the yellow color of the old Matchbox decals is Testors PLA Zinc Chromate yellow. Whodathunkit?!

Jose' unearthed a few more treasures from his collection from California.

We will begin with the 1/48 Accurate Miniatures Bell P-63A King Cobra racer. I think he said the 1/48 FAG P-51D was a Tamiya kit.
No the Mustang isn't non-binary! FAG stands for Fuerza Aerea Guatemalteca! Hey, I wanted to make sure as well. Anymore, who can tell?

Hasegawa's 1/72 McDonnell Luftwaffe F4-G Phantom II with aftermarket goodies, Monogram P-40B Tomahawk and Tamiya 1/35 Type 97 Japanese army tank. I asked after his multiple T-6 project and if Jose' had put anything new together and he hasn't done much else yet.
I NEVER criticize how fast anyone else builds.

The Revell 1/720 Graf Zeppelin still laughs at me from the other desktop. It has for 11 years now.
That's all the pictures so it must be all the story to tell!
I'll see you Men next year, in a shiny New Surgeon Thread too!

Our Christmas party is 18 January 2024. I can't wait to tell the story from Benchwarmer's in Ankeny. It seems our stalwart party spot, Old Chicago went suddenly out of Business, so we have a new place to ravage Uh, Enjoy!

This is just for the fun of it. I don't want anyone to think Benchwarmer's serves squab.
