1/48 scale Me 410 in-progress...

All the decals are now on the model, soon another light coat of Future will be sprayed on to the seal in the decals and after that the weathering can begin. :D

It looks great!
I'm looking forward to seeing that canopy unmasked!
Keep up the good work.

Cheers,

Bill

You won't be surprised to learn that my model of exactly the same machine, didn't come-out anywhere near as nice as that !!

Thanks for the comments guys!

Change of plans...instead of just putting on a thin coat of Future to seal in the decals I decided to add some scuff marks and paint chipping to the wing roots and also will be spraying on some thinner tinted with RLM 76 to tone down the markings a little and then I will put on the coat of Future. I want to add some of the paint chipping now and then adding more later on, the reason for doing this is it will give the look of the paint being worn off at different times.

Here is the Me 410 after the decals were muted by the thin spray of highly thinned RLM 76, I know it does not look a whole lot different than before but a lot of change was not really needed. The small black frame numbers along the lower lefthand side were toned down the most and now look more like they were painted on instead of being very tiny decals.

Using the airbrush I added more wear marks on the left wing root and did some paint chipping too, after this was done and the paint fully dry I sprayed on a very thin coat of Future cut with 1/3 Windex window cleaner. Later on after most of the weathering is done and the final flat coat is on I will be using my silver colored artists pencil to add a little more paint chips and scuff marks on the wing root to represent fresh looking wear marks.

Whilst the model is drying from the latest coat of Future I am painting and weathering the landing gear legs and tail wheel unit to get them ready adding them to the model.

Thanks again Terry! :)

This the part of modeling I like the most...trying give a little bit of 'life' to a blob of plastic.

I agree painting and weathering has become my favorite part of the project.

Terry,
I have always admired the weathering done by the armor guys and how realistic looking their models are. After my Messerschmitts are finished I will actually build an armor kit and try and weather it even though I hate those fake 'rubber' tracks. :(

No in-progress pics today, I am in the middle of painting and weathering the tail wheel and landing gear legs.

I think I really like the demarcation lines, not sharp or hard line but not real soft either. Something for me to shoot for. :hmmm

Thanks Paul, I kept my Me 410 reference books handy while I was spraying on the camouflage pattern so as to copy it as best I could. :zen

I like this model and how its turning out which makes the mishap with the windscreen even more painful. :bang head

Ha! They are only "fake rubber" until you paint them.
