1/48 scale Me 410 in-progress...

...and a few more in-progress pics.

The uppersurfaces of the Me 410 was painted this morning, the splinter pattern was airbrushed freehanded in RLM 75 and RLM 74 and then some lightened versions of these same colors was sprayed on to lighten a few select panels but the fading was heaviest around the wing roots, the wing roots will get plenty of other weathering effects later on.
As I usually do when I paint my aircraft models I paint the fuselage and wings at different times, this way I have a safe place to hold onto the model without the risk of damaging wet paint. The fuselage will be painted Tuesday.

And here is the pilot figure from the Me 410 kit and the little Mercedes Benz staff car, the pilot figure is almost done and just needs his clear flat coat while the staff car still has a couple more small bits to add before it can be finished up. The seats were painted painted with oil paints and I was attempting to get the look of leather to them...in certain light conditions they do but in these pics they just look poorly painted. :idonno

All the recent talk about the new Meng Me 410 kit got me interested in building a Me 410 but after finding out about some of the shape problems with the Meng kit I think I will stick with the older ProModeler kit even though the canopy design on that kit is less than brilliant.
There is a build of a Meng Me 410 going on over at Aeroscale right now if you want to find out more about this kit...from what I see the Meng kit is no improvement over the older ProModeler offering.

Interesting, I didn't know that!


Its looking really good, I love the way you paint the wheels on your aircraft, they look fantastic!

The Leather, perhaps a darker was, maybe one of the burnt offerings?

Since I already have several Monogram Me 410s in my stash I will not bother with getting the new Meng Me 410, from what I can see in pictures of Meng Me 410s they did a great job on the canopy and its much better than the one on the Monogram kit but aside from that there is no real improvement.

I will leave the leather seats on the staff car as they are, in real life they do look like they should. Besides, this model will be used only in the background in some of my airfield style pics.


Earlier today the last of the camo was sprayed on the Me 410 and while I had the airbrush out I masked and painted the white band around the rear of the fuselage.

My Me 410 looks a little better now after the rest of the camo is on it, it looks strange in my above pics with only the wings painted.

...and here is what the Me 410 looks like after all the camouflage paint is on it, now its starting to look like it should. While I had the airbrush out I masked and painted the white fuselage band.

Next for this model it will get its coat of Future in preperation for adding decals.

I just wonder , if we looked close enough would there be any models that are not flawed in some way ?

I have not studied this model but it looks like a 410 to me . Maybe that's why I try to not be a rivet counter

The big mistake on this model can't be seen right now, once I pull off the masking tape from the canopy the mistake I made will be very clear...I destroyed the windscreen I was supposed use by spilling glue on it and had to resort to using the windscreen for a different version of the Me 410. The Monogram/ProModeler kit gives you two different windscreens.

There was no fixing the damaged windscreen, it was partly melted and distorted.


I have about half the decals put on so far and might have new in-progress pics Sunday.

I just need to be more careful when building and those type of accidents won't happen. Also working on four models at a time did not help much either. :hmmm
