1/35-1/32 HUEYS & COBRAS

Thinking of getting one. Like your oppinion of what kits are the best, and which ones to stay away from. Also what AM stuff is out there for each. TIA....Harv :silly:

Academy kits of the UH-1 early series (also released under the MRC label since MRC is the importer) are nice but not so easy builds. Plenty of PE available. Panda makes the H/N and they are crap compared to the Academy. Dragon re-released the Panda kits with better decals and some basic PE... lipstick on a pig sort of thing.

For the Cobra, again look at Academy. AFV Club has the same kit with Taiwanese modifications under their label. Eduard does some nice PE.

Resin accessories exist for most kits but Cobra Company, the one I liked best, ceased trading.

All the above are the 1/35th scale kits. In 1/32nd, you may find the Monogram and or Revell Huey and Cobra. Both are basic models which need a lot of work.

Regards,

There is an old 1:24 scale Monogram kit, think there were two, one Medevac and one Gunship. Can't speak out accurate they were but they were full of stuff. Engine was fully represented even if it's buried inside. IP is only a decal, at this scale there should be lots of detail in there but it is totally missing. Course if you're into scratch building, it's a great starting point.

The version to get was the Clear one made of... you guessed it... clear plastic fuselage! Another one which I built was the Rambo release...

Regards,

Never saw that one, guess it has ribs and stringers running out the tail and maybe drive shaft to the tail rotor.

One day, ONE DAY, I'll tackel that big one, the IP will be the focus.

Saul, did they make a Cobra based on that kit? Seem to remember a big cobra once.

Hi there.

The Revell 1/32 scale Huey came as either a Gunship or a Slick depending on which kit you bought. It was also released molded in white plastic as an air ambulance.

I did a lot of modifying and scratch-building of the interior on one of mine but the worst parts of all those kits (and of their Ah-i Cobra Gunship)were the pilot and the co-pilot who were both posed - are you ready for this - with their hands on their knees.

The instrument panels weren't too bad and with careful painting they could be made to look pretty good.

Cheers from Peter
