1/16 scale Tiger 1 early.

Pulled the trigger on Andy's 1/16 scale Tiger 1, Early. I debated the purchase, but I decided to do it for a few reasons... I've never built a model of the Tiger, I'm not getting any younger and I want to see just how big this model is.

Looking at which Tiger to represent. I think the new unit number 113 painted over the faded old numbers on this one as well as the Mammoth insignia from the 502 Heavy Battalion looks interesting. Here is a decal sheet for that tank. I don't believe the paint color shown is right, though? I'll be masking and airbrushing on the numbers. This Tiger doesn't have side skirts and it looks like it's missing at least one front mud guard. I think it's in the Panzer Grey paint with what looks like worn winter wash? Or maybe mud smeared on it? Anyway I like the look.

The winter white wash usually didn't last very long and it would not have looked soft edged like this has. Also the trees have leaves on them and no cold weather clothes. My guess is that it is the sand color with green and/or brown camo added.
Definitely an interesting build for a Tiger.

David Bryden states this is an original colour pic of 113. The faint outline of 14 can be seen. It was RAL 7021 Dunkel Grau and was liberally smeared with mud. Hope that helps.

The "mud Tiger" pic is interesting. This tank has the smoke dischargers with the ones on the left side being coated in mud, if it is mud. Maybe the pic is a WIP on applying the camo? It is missing the mud guard, like in the other pics, but it's also missing the lights that can be seen in the B&W photo's. I also noticed the dischargers are not on the Tiger in the B&W shots.

These pics are all of the same tanks supposedly. In the B&W pics you can see the smoke discharger brackets although the dischargers have been removed. Here is some info on them. https://tiger1.info/EN/AH-smoke-launchers.html
Also the lights were removable prior to an engagement to prevent damage. Tiger I Info is a fantastic resource for Tiger information. https://tiger1.info/index.html
I use it when doing a Tiger to determine fixes for the kit I have. Here's yours. https://tiger1.info/models/products-page/AH003

This may help if you don't have 'Tiger 1 on the Eastern Front' but if you do then its info you already have.
113 started out as third tank in the first batch of 4 Tigers delivered to 502 in the Leningrad area in factory German Grey, being a 'bare bones early vehicle without the standard fittings that the later ones got.
It was later renumbered 3 and given a large striped style winter wash.
It eventually recieved the rear stowage bin and was 'retro fitted' with the side mounting bolts for the guards but never had the track guards fitted.
Tank 3 was re-painted over the grey with Dark Yellow in the spring of '43, and the markings changed to 14. chassis number 250005.

This is when the side bolts were mounted.
The tank was then renumbered back to 113 before being lost before the end of spring of 1944

Thanks for the Link, James...good stuff!👍👍 Reading through it I already have eliminated my build representing #223. As the parts supplied in the kit is not correct for that Tiger.
