Latest Acquisitions Revisited!

Received on Saturday, not today (Mother's Day, 2021):
AR32500SBDdataStencils.JPG

Nano Film with stencil data for the Trumpeter 32nd scale SBD. Many of these stencils can be used on other projects.

AR35516ShermanTankBasics.JPG

Basic markings needed for any Sherman kit. The sizes lend themselves to other subjects too. Again, on Nano Film.

AR88193USFoundryCast16Scale.JPG

Perfect for the Classy Model Stuart series, these 1/16th scale foundry marks still have uses for my preferred 1/35th scale.

eBayBGA2.5mm.JPG

Finally got the middle size between my previous BGA balls of 0.2mm & 0.3mm. Perfect for rivets and micro-soldering.

MMP8122MacchiC.202Folgore01.JPG

Third edition which is the perfect reference for the Hasegawa kits (in Eduard boxes) or the PCM kit if going larger. Small scale modelers may find it useful but keep in mind that there is tremendous details within the book.

MMP9146FinnishGermanSeaplaneColours01.JPG

Beautifully done profiles which include the images on which they are based. Plenty of tables and markings and font, as well as placement, found within.

Regards,

These came last Saturday, just getting around to post.

Some actual modeling stuff...

The Flashmaster blades interested me, they are super thin and flexible, so we ordered up a set to try out. That's nine blades in the palm of my hand, stay tuned for a test drive and review.

SP Designs is Сергей Паксютов (Sergey Paksyutov). Think of his products like a friend that sees small details you don't, corrects them for his kits, makes molds, and sells you copies at a great price. I've been a customer for many years. Don't let the austere packaging fool you, the products are accurate and sometimes you need to do a little work yourself (like drilling out the took hook eyes for the cable).

Regards,

Part of the birthday haul arrived. The new Namer APC, some books, and my next project a DFW C.V. I have some extra goodies coming for the DFW C.V. Some 3d seat belts which should be interesting as well as machine guns. I have never considered the AK FAQ books because of price and I figured they would be recaps of all the other books. Well I got 1 and have now started collectin g. They are full of interesting info. I have the Valejo book on painting and weathering and consider it to be the defacto bible for that so when I saw they have one on modeling I got it. WOW its big and heavy and chock full of interesting stuff. Cant wait to sit and read through. Only issue with it and the FAQ books are they are big and heavy and if you fall asleep reading I can see a squashed nose if they fall on your face lol.

Got the rest of my birthday stuff. Some more DSPAIE tools and a book.
Table vice, PE rolling set, Bladeless pliers, glass file, and a book. Not sure about the bladeless pliers. Like a set of diagonal cutters but flat and about 1mm wide. So see how well they work for bending small stuff.

That vice looks like a nice one James!

I have a set of the glass files. Have not found a need or application to use them yet. I would suggest to not push them as I believe the plating is what has the sharp edges. Once the plating chips off the usability will probably decline. I guess we will have to just use them to see what they do eh?

I need to get another pair of those snippers. I tried to cut something I shouldn't have tried.

Nice haul James!

I would be interested in your findings. I have 3 different ones now. Not sure how best to use them or where. The vice looks good but it is smaller than expected. Still cant wait to try it.

I love the snippers and have 2 now. These whough they look like the snippers are actually pliers. I got them sight unseen. I'm not sure how useful they will be but will give them a try when bending small pe.

I would be interested to hear what you think of that vice James. How tight and smooth do the jaws work. Is there any play in the jaw that moves, Things like that.

As to the pliers, I thought they were a set of the single blade nippers. I would be interested in how they work as well.

The action on the vice is very nice. Smooth and no play that I can feel. It comes with I think 6 pins but I will have to check for sure when I go back into my shop. It also has a length of tube to cut and fit over the pins. You have to peel the paper off a soft rubber pad and attach it to the bottom otherwise its ready to go. I'll let you know on the pliers when I try bending something. The leather pouch isnt the usual stiff leather. It almost feels like kid leather. I'll let you know tomorrow unless I make it back down stairs tonight.

I really need to go back a few pages to see some of the other "goodies" that you guys have acquired recently. The things that I am seeing are pretty dang good though.

I pre-ordered this bad boy in late March and I just got it a few days ago. It's a pretty good re-pop as it's got pad printed tires and a few updated parts. I built one around 20 years ago and that one just wasn't what I was hoping for after I built it so I'm looking forward to another shot at this car.

and a nice lil' PE fret to go along with it:

I had three '67 Notchbacks at different times throughout my early 20's and sure do miss them. The latest, pictured below, was a conglomeration of all three cars as the first two were wrecked. The first was a deer strike, the second one....somebody pulled out in front of me. This car survived its remaining years with me.....sure wished I could have her back.
