WHAT MAKES A MASTER MODELER

Someone who inspires people to model to their own level of ability and then push forward a little bit more.
James

The inspiration thing is key in my opinion. I can't tell you how many times I have gone to the Masters section to look at a build to see how they did it and to draw from that example. Folks that just crank out the models are also inspiring, as it gives exposure to new things and sparks the creative juices in my mind.

Being acknowledged as one of the few, the proud is an honor and also carries responsibility to teach and nurture fellow hobbyists.

This is so well put, I could not do it any better. James also said it well. Both statements are what a master is to me.

A bit late on this thread, got a good excuse, only joined few days ago.

In a zen way if you think you are a master, you certainly are not. Having said that, to me personally it is absolutely unbelievable how much skill and talent and achievement I have see on this site (lots to explore still mind you) without being able to find a single member displaying anything else but a friendly, kind word, always giving advice and encouragement, great supporting attitude. I got complimented on some pieces of my work I never thought would be worth anything, let alone an honest word from so many people in here. Thank you all :notworthy :notworthy :notworthy

I had a mad teacher at Uni who was a genius in the mechanics of fluids, worked with NASA on the space shuttle program and all that. He told us once " One may have 100 Nobel prizes for everything and anything that moves, if one cannot pass that knowledge onto the next generation, they would have wasted their life".

To me, that is the true meaning of a master. On top of all the amazing skill and technique and all that, the ability to help, share, support, encourage and stimulate is by far the most important thing.

I wish that one day one modelling fan would say they learnt something from me. That would have made my modelling experience so much more worthy.

I had a football coach (yes, I was on the football team in HS...skinny runt that I was) that used to say "The measure of a man is not in what he says or does, but in what inspires others to do." For the past 10 years or so, his former players and students gather in August to celebrate what he inspired us to do... :good:

I look at the work offered here and at other sites and am inspired to try... my work is poor at best, but I am not building for self-aggrandizement but for the satisfaction of doing the best I can... Of course, being my own worst critic, I always say... I can do better... and try again.

Hopefully, after the foreclosure is over and I have found new digs, I can "try" again... :geek

Anybody want a Green Goblin?

A little while ago i chatted with an old neighbour, he was around 6 years old when i was a teenager, and i spent a lot of time in my parents garage with all kind of things, Mopeds and radiocontrolled cars etc.
He told me that i was the one that inspired him to do those things to.
Felt so strange because i remember him as the enoying kid that you tried to get out from the garage! hahaha never thought that i tought him something, but obviously he saw and remembered many things, later i helped him with he's minicross and we where driving in an old sandpit outside the town.

Saw pics from he's garage now....i'm so jelous!! all the machines and tools! hahaha

I must say that there is no better feeling than to teach something to someone, be it motors and cars or modelling, i never had the feel i must'nt keep my techniques a secret from someone (there are those people who do), If you see something i made that you like just ask and i will try to explain how it's done (if i remember it....) :geek

A big :drinks to all our masters here on MA!!
