Death and Devestation in WNC

Saw a volunteer firefighter on youtube talking about Chimney Rock.
"We'll build back, it'll take a while, probably not before I die but it'll be rebuilt."

It seems that my family has generally avoided big storms. However, I was deployed to St Croix immediately after Hugo in 1989. The only greenery left was broken beer bottles. When I eventually left, three years later, they had just restored power and cable to the whole island. My niece was deployed to St Croix and Puerto Rico after Maria... what an absolute mess that was!

My BIL moved back to CLE a couple of years ago from the Tampa area... There are reasons to live in NE Ohio...

I think a lot of people in WNC were thinking the same.
I don't know, this has been a safe area, there's a reason why this storm has been called historic, long time residents have not seen anything like this.My old state NJ didn't really get hit till 2010+2012 hurricanes, hard to find a 100% safe place, whether it's natural,or crime and chaos.
