WHAT MAKES A MASTER MODELER

At Modelers Alliance, Bob Letterman makes the Masters. It's his call and I haven't seen one I would disagree with.

That being said, why don't you all quit guessing and just ask Bob L what the criteria needs to be. :idonno

Cheers, Christian B)

This is not a rules committee! I want your opinion "only" for discussion purposes. I was not searching for solutions. I want folks to think about their expectations of a master modeler and see how they compare to others.

Well, I'm a really good baiter. But I do not look forward to the title if I becomes any better!

Regards,

Ah, the question was Chris, what do YOU think makes a Master?

Well, it would be much easier to find an answer if we new the real definition.

The only things I can tell for sure is that I am definitely not one :)

Your answer then is what makes you not a master.

Go ahead, keep mashing that same old button something will definitely come out although it might not be liked by anyone here . I am not a Master orator and I never worry about being politically correct so you're taking your chances here .

To start with , I have always heard "Jack of all trades will probably be master of none " but I have met some that have mastered more than one thing.

Lets break it down to field of endeavor. Some people here build diorama or tanks or ship or planes.
Even building all those things do not be a master .
He does not have to give instructions on doing any of these things or ever enter a contest to be a master.

In my humble opinion a master can create parts or complete models from plastic or other materials.
All he needs are tools, material and a photo, plan or a concept.
If he can build something and see it through to a finish state he is a master.

That's my .25

Thank you for your 25 cents.

Creativity: Is not limited by what is provided in the box. Has a goal in mind of what they want to achieve and is able to come up with solutions to achieve those goals.

Technique: Attention to detail. Has the tools and ability to make it look right regardless of whether it is a factory finish or a beat up scrap pile of rusted metal.

Tenacity: Determination to see a project through to the finish.

Inspiring: The human component. Has the ability and willingness to share their enjoyment of the hobby with others.

What makes a master modeller?

The force must be strong

you must unlearn what you have learned

PATIENCE YOU MUST HAVE

Always pass on what you have learned

Once you start down the master path, forever will it dominate your destiny, consume you it will.

In a dark place we find ourselves, and a little more knowledge lights our way.

Control, control, you must learn control!

Feel the force!

anyone who completes one of these sometimes infuriating, tricky and or under/over engineered sometimes ill fitting sometimes over priced pieces of sometimes down right frustrating plastic reproductions of the real thing is a Master in my book, it does take a certain skill to do this and some people cannot do even one.

This hobby is not for anyone, many times at model shows I have heard people comment ''how do they do those''??

Hats off to all us model builders, we are all Masters in our own right.

Seriously, this is worth watching - it may answer the question - What makes a Master Modeller.

I viewed this some years ago

Yep, that's the ultimate in Master Modeling no doubt. I wonder if the weight scales down?

In my field a master plumber can handle any problem presented to him/her - finish the job professionally and complete any other objective small or large that comes up during the process. The master plumber also understands humility, they know when to outsource and when and how to take a step back and look at an issue from a different angle- think out of the box, and complete the job successfully.

And there it is, complete the job successfully.

We have all been applauded here for our efforts and our resolve to finish something and make it a one of a kind piece of art. This site has- in my humble opinion - more master modelers than it recognizes. You don't have to build 100 kits a year to achieve this, nor do you have to build the best buildings or display bases either. You need to finish your job to the best of your ability, don't skimp, and don't flinch!

Chef you have to be the fastest builder I have ever seen, and you pull it off in such a way that it looks easy.

James you have a fantastic eye for the clean line, this is something alot do not have.

Tony Lee you blow my mind regularly with your ability to build several things at once!

And Bob, you brought my to this site- your Mustang was fantastic :drinks and your humble attitude while you crank out amazing builds is always worth the time.

Trying not to get too gushy- Mark, Iron Mike and Recon Ron you guys have inspired me to try different things, all while churning out fantastic work.

And Saul in my mind you are a master- a master model collector, you try to keep us all straight while constantly gushing information on whatever topic comes up.

Now get your @zzes back to work!

Now that the cat is out of the bag so to speak my definition of what a "Master" should be is:

Randy Ditton

That man does incredible work.
