What is the oldest kit you have?

Hey everyone!

I was digging through my model stash the other day and it occured to me I had several quite old and hard to find kits. So here is a thread to show off that old beast that is in your stash on the back shelf in hiding.

I have several kits that fit here and so to start it off here is the one that I beleive is my oldest:

Yup, an old Aurora kit with the taped corner box and the cover is wrapped with the printed paper. Copywrite is 1956 though it is posibly a little newer. The original wrapping plastic is still in the box with a price tag of 79 cents. All the plastic is good and complete though the decals are too yellow. Not bad for 58 years old.

Here is the next one:

An old HAWK kit with a copywrite date of 1961. Flourecent orange plastic in great shape and complete. Yellow decals of course but the box is a solid one with the tape type corners. A little yellowing on the outer white, but again not bad for a 53 year old.

This next one has a little significance to me, I "barely" remember my dad bringing one of these kits home and putting it together when I was 3 or 4. I remembered the box art and the white plastic model as well as the black decals. Seems like the landing gear went awy very quickly as well as the propellor blades. BUT, I DO REMEMBER IT!! :woohoo:

This kit while it still had the original box art and copywrite date of 1959 was a later issue as it was a fold up box probably issued late 60's as it has the Apollo lander for a dime offer in it still. Otherwise it is just as I remember it.

This last kit is my pride and joy. Was hugely lucky find. :frantic

This was another kit that I remember my dad bringing home. He built the roadster and painted all the bodywork on it a light metallic green. Had it for a long time but as a kid with a OCD mom whos deadly dustcloth destroyed many a model, it went away years ago. I did get to build the model T part of the kit. Built it as the stock T.

This particular kit was found with most of the parts rattling around off the trees and the 2 slicks for the Hot Rod T assembled with the wheels. I recently did an inventory and surprisingly everything was there! The Hot Rod car parts were all in good shape. The T parts were mostly good though there were some slight damaged bits from the vinyle tires setting aganst them. Nothing that can't be easily fixed with a touch of filler and a sanding stick.

Everything is now all packed safely ing ziplock bags so no lost or damaged parts should occur. (y)

That's pretty cool stuff Paul. I don't know what old stuff I have, doubt anything approaching the age on these. Looking forward to this thread though. :popcorn

I did have the first one, along with their Boeing, Gladiator and Hawk. I believe they went overseas.

Regards,

I remember that P-6. I built it around 67 or 68. I must have been around 40 then.

Ha, cool! I have the Aurora P-6 sitting right in front of me for sale :D . I have a Strombeck TT-1 Pinto in the peep top box, which might pre-date the Aurora kit. I think that is my oldest kit, though I have a number of oddities and other rare kits that I am looking forward to building

Here is mine. The first one goes back to 1975.

These were sent to me from Saul Garcia. :)

Oldest kit I have in my stash is a Nova Models 1/72 XB-35 vacuform kit. I honestly can't remember if I bought this or if it was given to me (I want to say it was given to me). I got it from a member of the scale model club I'm a member of. Date on the instruction sheet says 1983, and I wouldnt be surprised in the slightest if thats correct for this kit, considering the box its in (cardboard box w/ a photocopied image of the a/c on the front).

Taking the pic of the kit just now is probably the closest inspection I've made of the kit since I got it 2 or 3 years ago. From what I can tell its just 2 vacuformed sheets, w/ the top & bottom halves of the fuselage and various other components on each. No interior parts, no clear parts that I can see (not sure whether they were there and have been lost over the years or if there never were any), and extremely basic landing gear and no detail at all on the landing gear bays.

At this point I honestly have no clue whether I'll ever actually attempt to build this or not. I know if I do, that I can see my 3D CAD experience getting a workout on this one.

A friend from USA once sent me a couple of surprise models A few bag kits from the 60's I have builod the rEvell 262 About time I did some of the airfix ones :geek

Oldest 2 kits I have are a Hawk Nieuport 17 (1958) and a an OLD Aurora SBC-3 Helldiver (1961).

The Hawk kit is the first one I bought on my own and built without assistance from my father. I got the SBC in a box of kits... I don't remember when...

I'm not sure what year it is, but I believe the oldest kit I have is the Aurora Jet Commando in 1/72 scale. It was all loose in the box and recently some parts had been lost as I tried to build it. I'm still working on it but it might be awhile before I can ever finish it.

Don't have that many old ones, a few rarer ones though!

My oldest is probably a Hawk IMC 1/32 Bell Jet Ranger. Can't find a date on it though I think it is from the 1970's

I have 2 box scale Revell (1/540ish) USS ESSEX (CVA-9) dated 1957 and the USS FORRESTAL (CVA-59) dated 1958-59. Need to pull the ESSSEX out & finish her up...

Mine is fairly up to date,I have a Revell SMS Emden. Some Tamiya 1/48 armor now 9 years old,but nothing really exotic.

I have the Monogram Big T that my ex bought me way back in 1976. My son and I re-started it in 1996, but boxed it back up. To quote Karl Childers "It was too big. mmm hmmm." Maybe some day I finish it off.

I also have a '32 Ford sedan body by AMT from the 60's that's screaming to be resurrected, who knows? B)
