Re:Terry's M113 "LETS MAKE TRACKS' "BACK TO BASE"

With the M113 almost done it's time to start thinking about the base to place it on. First I needed to come up with the items to be included and how to arrange them on the base. The size of the base is important. If it is too little things won't fit and the scene will look cramped. If it is too large there is too much empty space so I played around with it until I got what I wanted.

I soon discovered that I needed a different size wood base. When that problem was solved I made the area that the track would set on. This is made of some stuff called oven baked clay. I just rolled it out and cut the shape I wanted and then put it in the oven at 275 degrees for about ten minutes after which the clay is hard.

Then I cut the wood to match the clay shape.

Next I began to do the ground work. Step one I added dirt and I mean dirt. It is held in place with future floor wax.

Next comes paint starting with a light green and then red brown. After masking off the wood base.

Last I added some grass and highlights and then attached the M113 to the base. I am still in the process of weathering the ground work.

Re:Terry's M113 "LETS MAKE TRACKS' "MAKE CAMP"

Well I am getting pretty close to the end of this trip, but to start adding some humanity to this build I needed to give it that lived in touch. I put in the lawn chair that I made awhile back, a radio to listen to "Good Morning Vietnam", some unloaded tarps and bed rolls. I made a tool tray to hold tools for engine work including scratch oil can. I am trying to come up with a way to add a tarp cover to keep the hot sun off the ramp/back porch. I think painting the extra stowage bits is more difficult than painting the tank it's self. Here is some pictures of the work so far feel free to comment. Next will be painting some figures to live in the little scene.

Re:Terry's M113

WOW !! T,

This came out looking Fan-F*#&in'-Tastic !!! Oh Yeah ! :notworthy :ro:

When you did the ground work you mentioned that you Held it in place with Future. Did you mix it into the Dirt , or did you just shoot it over it after it was laid on the Base. Either way - That's a New Technique on Me.

While you are at it , You might as well Add the Grunt Slammin' :drink some Budweiser with a few crushed empties on the Ground & Rig the Base up with a Motion Sensor to Play some Credence & The Rolling Stones ... Ya' know like their Jammin out tryin' to Relax ?? ( just my $.02)

Awesome JOB :ro: :drink

Re:Terry's M113 "LETS MAKE TRACKS' "MAKE CAMP"

B) B) Brilliant work Terry!
The lawn chair is a classic - good scatch work. The details are great and the gear inside really gives it the feel of life. One of the shots just shows all the name plates etc on the wall of the motor -nice detail.
Base is excellent and as MOONPUPPY said, maybe we just get you to make our bases  .
Very nice and congrats on finishing the GB.

Ian.
