These pictures are from the Preliminary Report No. 10 - Russian KV-1 -
Military College of Science STT Chobham Lane Chertsey February 1944
Love the Ron Popeil reference! I do have that report too but remember a disconnect in translations.

OK, the repair manual for the KV has these illustrations...

Caption to figure 69 is "Pressing out of the drive shaft using device No. 4098" so perhaps I am thinking drive shaft and the British report calls it an axle? For some reason it didn't click with me! DOH!

Caption to figure 70 is "Removal of the driving wheel from the bracket with the help of device № 3916"

Caption to figure 71 is "Pressing the drive wheel onto the bracket using tool No. 5212."

While I am glad to learn something, the one in trouble now is @Jeeves as now he sees the detail missing! Oops!

The russians didn't use the word axle (ось) preferring to use shaft.

I will neither confirm or deny my profession, avocation, or that we even talked about tanks in general, with that said, Mike, with all good meaning please look out your window and see how snow accumulates on objects.

Lol

It's just the start John...just playing around with the new product. Patience my friend as you preach to me ;) Trust me...after all the plowing I've been doing this break, I'm aware of snow coverage...

It's not John's tutorial per se...he just reminded me of it- has a lot to do with Mike Rinaldi's Oil Paint Rendering (OPR) technique...

Imho, mapping is a non-descriptive moniker, as mapping in color theory is something very different.
Color mapping is the process of associating specific values in data with colors in a visual representation, such as a plot or image. This technique enhances the understanding of data by revealing patterns and relationships through color differentiation.
What Rinaldi is talking about is really just variation in intensity (saturation) of color.
